Is this much knock something to worry about?

I had my car tuned at DTM a while back and finnally got around to picking up a open ecu cable. Tonight I did some data logging. Some part throttle stuff and a couple light pulls. I notice quite a few instances of knock. What do you guys think? You can download the log here.

The count never goes above 3 and it seems fairly random, or at least centered around low speed take offs, or in the 2k -4k range. The car has been driving strong for 5k miles and over a year now if that makes and difference.

ETA: link dead so I uploaded it as a zip file. Another log comming later this evening.

3 counts of knock will pull 1* If it is random probably nothing to really worry about, what fuel are you using? Couldnt look at the log, I'm on my phone but for what its worth I make adjustments when i see 3 counts, the ecu is going to make the changes anyway so you might as well do it yourself.

right now I'm running 93 with a little bit of octance booster. I tried turning the boost doing from 23.5psi indicated on my gauge (during this run) to 20.5 on a couple others and there was still intermitant knock present but never more than a knock sum of 2, usuallly 1. Some of the seem to be at weird places too, like when pulling off from a stop light. Could this be false knock?

that amount of knock is literally nothing. !

doesn't even look like real knock, just phantom. Do a few more logs and see if the knock is in the same place man.

Also you have to many things logging at once, so you are getting poor definition. Turn off everything except WGDC, Knocksum, Boost, RPM, TPS and your wideband if you are running one.

No wideband, but thats good to hear. I'll try to get a few logs tommorow with just the parameters you listed. I know all engines knock a little here and there, but the is my first expirience with evo datalogging/tuning. Ill pull a copy of my rom to if I can to help get a better understanding of whats going on. Thanks though, given its some what random nature I kinda figured that it was something like that. It just supprised me that I was getting any knock at all, especially when running 93 and an octane booster. Anyone else who's interested please feel free to comment. Goodnight, I'm passing out for the night.

Also the knock counts that you get the 3's and 2's was this wot?or part throttle cause if it's part throttle it could sometime do this depending on how quick you let off the throttle and how much gas your giving it..If this is not even happening on wot I would even think about these random counts also like the other posted real knock is metered by volts..

It appears he is getting some at WOT, but the sample rate is so low it's hard to tell. I wouldn't make any tuning decisions from that log, the sample rate isn't even 2/sec.

Definitely get another log with less stuff logging, only select what you need.

I agree, the sample rate is way too low to see whats going on. Do some more logging with just the bare minimum needed. 3 back to back pulls from 2000-7500 in 3rd should show up anything to be concerned about.

Haven't had a chance to log lately. just got back from vacation . It was my first time logging and the car spends the vast majority of the time at part throtle, under 6k , and no more than 23 psi so I figured that would be the most important area to review. I didn't realize how much logging that many values though decreases resolution that much. Won't make that mistake again.

By the way thanks for looking at my logs guys. I'm new to all this and am still getting used to the logging/tuning software setup on the mitsu's (I used to be a honda guy, reformed lol). Speed desity, the honda/acura standard, is something I learned on and am far more comfortable with, haha. The 2byte load/calculated load, and wierd forced induction fuel/advance/timing curves are something new to me. Maybe I should just make a speed/density conversion one of my next projects, hmmm...

Oh well, enough screwing around, back to work for me.

I've got some new logs for you guys finnaly. Took your advice and reduce the number of variables being logged for better resolution. The only change between this and the last log is like .5 or 1psi more boost and a little higher octane fuel. prolly about 97 versus 94 to 96 last time. Some regular driving and a third gear pull to about 6500 and a two 4 gear pulls to around the same. Lemme know what you think. As awlays your help is much appriciated.

This round there is no knock count above one on the pulls, and the first 1 count kinda looks like shift knock. On the high way part throttle stuff I didnt see more than a two count.

Log looks good! Resolution is still a bit low, but it's better than last time.

By the way, in Evoscan you can use ctrl + up/down arrow to change the order that logged items will appear in in your .csv. Makes it much easier for you and others to read your log when all the columns that have data in them are at the left in the log (move them to the top in Evoscan), and empty columns are all off to the right.

For those of you saying 3* of knock is nothing...... what do you have your KNOCK CEL configured for? I normally tune for zero knock all the time and I have my KNOCK CEL set to 3*. Curious.

I didnt tune the car myself, and I just pulled the ROM off today. I don't even know where to to check that value. What do I look under to find that?
