im trying to upload the logs now, but i cant even open them myself? do i have to have excel or some other program? all i have is notepad and word lol and its not making much since when opened in them.

forgot to add when in boost around 10-12psi on the run i did afr was way low around 10-10.5
Evoscan logs are saved in .csv format; you'll need excel (or the free openoffice suites' calc) to open them and view the raw data. Worst case you can use evoscan to open the log and use the maptracer.

I set my slow knockCel to 3 and the high to 6; AFAIK those are the values most tuners use as well. Having the slow knockCel at 6 is a bit too high IMO; if you get 3 or 4 counts of knock, you want to know.

this is an off topic question, but when u knock, does the ecu reverts to the low octane timing map? if so, then when will let it back to the high map? after key cycle or based on a timmer?
thx

When the ECU detects a knocksum greater than 7, it gradually starts decreasing the octane flag. The octane flag starts at 100, which means the ECU uses 100% of the high octane map and 0% of the low octane map. As the octane flag decreases it interpolates more and more with the low octane map. When the octane flag reaches 90, 90% of the value in the high octane map will be interpolated with 10% of the low octane map, and so on.

When the ECU sees you enter boost without encountering knock, it starts increasing the octane flag again, gradually bringing it back to 100 and interpolating less and less with the low octane map.

car was tuned in 06 by a shop in Edison N.J. I wont mention the shops name until i know i will not be banned for doing so, so if you want to do your own homework on what supposed notible shops are located there be my guest.

and thanks raptord for the heads up on the slow knock count. i will set that lower asap to either 2 or 3. another quick question about excel. when i go in and try to open my logs with excel it wont open them. should i change where they save to in excel or leave them to be saved in evoscan saved logs folder? i tried copying one to the desktop and clicking open with and then excel and it wouldnt let me. donno whats going on here?

What does excel say when it fails to open a log? What version of excel?

nevermind i figured it out. when i installed excel the other day, i did so with microsoft office which installed a newer word, excel, powerpoint and oneword. when i made a shortcut of excel to my desktop and went to openwith, desktop, and tried setting the excel shortcut on the desktop as the program it used, it wouldnt allow me to because it said microsoft office. basically i had to go through a bunch of subfolders to actually find the excel folder.

log i took of the half throttle pull look like it had 1-2 counts of knock in some areas but nothing major, however i noticed for some reason it did not log load and i know i had it check marked. i actually logged quite a bit of areas including coolant temp, load, rpm, tps, among others.

here are two logs. one for startup, warmup, and idle. skip to row 200 for the beginning of that log. and one for the pull which wont really help with anything until i figure out why the load is not logging.

1byte load only works on Tephra v7 roms; that's why it's always zero. Best bet would probably to get 2byte load set up on your rom and log that.

just finished doing so after like 2 hours of looking for the definition to put in my xml just for the mut table. it really seems like everyone just starting out on ecuflash is having trouble finding alot of the simpler things and basic stuff due to the threads being so old. i added the stuff in for the mut table and went ahead and found the 2byte airflow and rpm definitions to add as well.

one question about the three and the mut table. if i open the 00 load and 01 load tables and change the values to 35164 and 35165 does it directly affect the mut table itself or do i have to change those values as well?

reason i ask is because the site i found the mut table definition on was 3g something... for eclipses using evo8 ecu's. they had the rpm and airflow definitions reversed where airflow was above rpm. on evom everything i have found rpm should be 02 and 03 and above airflow which is 04 and 05. they had airflow at 02 and 03 and rpm at 04 and 05. now if i left it like that and changed the mut table values to what they had how would that effect the ecu and logging, or would it as long as both the 02 03 04 and 05 tables matched the corresponding locations on the mut table?

The requestID's in evoscan indicate which location in the MUT table it will look up for a given item. So in evoscan if the requestID's for 2byte load are 00 and 01, then your 2 addresses for 2byte load need to be in MUT00 and MUT01. Same for 2byte airflow and rpm if you want to use those (not needed though).

Bascially, the requestID in evoscan indicates which address in the MUT table to access to get X data (say timing advance). Then the value entered at the address in the MUT table is the address in the RAM where that data (timing) can be accessed.

Hope that makes sense!

I've played around a few times with the idea of writing up a big beginners guide to common questions with updated links to up to date information, but I never seem to find the time lol. Hopefully one of these days I'll get around to it, as EcuFlash seems to be getting lots of interest lately from people just starting out with tuning their own cars.

that does make sense. i think i am almost ready to do a wot log and start tuning. the only other thing i can think i need to do is the rear o2 patch and wire in my aem for logging. i also need to research some on logging boost this weekend. i wont get the chance to do anything this weekend since ill be at work.

well i didnt think i would get the oppurtunity to log the car with the new 2byte load and other stuff i have added, but i did. got off work and did another log at idle. also worked the guts up to go wot in third from 2500 and do a log....

it didnt blow up lol but it sure seemed like it wanted to. at around 6k or so, wasnt really paying attention much to rpms just boost and afr at the moment the car spit and sputtered and cut out really bad up top almost like it was blowing the spark out but im pretty positive that was not the problem.

immediately let out and didnt try taking it any further than around 6k rpms. babied the car and did another cruising log on the way to my girlfriends. when i got home i opened the log to see what the deal was.

i know i hit a spike of around 28psi a little more than usual, car felt fine and pulled pretty hard until the cutting out. first glance at the log i went straight for the load to see the max i hit... 360. i didnt expect it to be that much. my tables right now are only up to 260 i have yet to change them. im thinking this is part of the problem. am i correct?

also looking at the idc should really scare the hell out of you. max idc was like 106% so its safe to assume boost needs to come down, or i need bigger injectors, or possibly both correct?

here are the logs give me your expert advice please.

106% idc isn't the end of the world, they often don't tap out until over 110%. Lowering the boost a bit and allowing it to tapper some more should solve that.

That load seems very high for a IX turbo. Are you sure the addresses are setup right?

its not a ix turbo. its an 8 turbo with a ix (10.5) hotside housing so i dont know if that would make a difference for the load being that high or if some of my other mods could affect it?

i noticed my boost isnt really tapering as much now with the stock fuel and timing maps as it did before. im definately turning the boost back down to stock 18-19 until i get injectors. anything over 90%idc is frightening to me i dont want to pop a motor, even though knock during that time and at any part of that log was ever above 2.

how would you suggest going about getting the boost to taper more? everyone i have seen in here is wanting it not to taper as much and here i am being told to get it to taper more lol. (no offense)
