Injector scaling issue, weird results...
Injector scaling issue, weird results...
!!!UPDATE!!!
Lady's and Gent's, Car has been down for a while due to a blown stocker 16G. Amongst various other issues.
Recently just purchased an Arashi TD06SL2-20G off of ebay, which in research shows to be a Gen1 Tomei Arms M7960 in disguise.
Also Purchased a new o2 Dump from MAP, and took the already ported stock logger back in for some more work.
This week I will be tuning. Do I need to change my injector scalings fromthe previous round back in August with the stocker 16G? I was thinkig that once Injectors were scaled, swapping turbos didnt affect? HELP on this one please.
Original Thread Post:
Hey guys, been dialing in the project car (thread of build with pics, tuning hurdles, logs to follow) and came across a very interesting issue.
Scalled PTE 880's at 731, with nj266 and merlins guide.
4.69 - 3.312
7.03 - 2.256
9.38 - 1.368
11.72 - 1.008
14.06 - .840
16.41 - 0.696
18.68 - 0.624
I know the high voltage values and low voltage values are off. The main two for contribution to tuning are the 11.7 and 14.06. I will dial the others in, once I know I am on the right track.
From every reasonable sense, the car moves, performs, and idles like it should now. I am -.1234 in the LTFT low, and -10. in the ltft mid, and, -.1234 on 02 feedback. I used merlins method as well as nj266 method from the manual.
When I scalled these injectors at 770,
4.69 - 3.624
7.03 - 2.304
9.38 - 1.440
11.72 - 1.104
14.06 - .792
16.41 - .576
18.68 - .456
I get the mid dialed in to -.2123, but the low end is always adding +10 to +12 fuel in the low. No amount of fenagling, scaling, ICSV adjusting, etc. for the last three months will bring the low in, with out scaling the injectors down to 731 as mentioned above.
I know parts list is the next question:
HKS Suction intake
Dejon 4" intake tube
Stock 8 Turbo
Agency power lower charge pipe
ETS 4" X Huge Intercooler
Stock upper intercooler piping, custom hoses
Full Blown TB
MAP REV3 Intake manifold
Skunk 2 Fuel rail
PTE 880's
Walbro 255
Kelford 272's, lifters, retainers, stock springs
Stock head
Okada Direct COP replacements
Agency Power Ground kit
Stock Block that I know of
Ported/Polished Log Manifold
Megan 02 dump, and 3" down pipe
Perrin 100 cell cat
custom 3" high flow cat back exhaust
Forge Resirc BOV
17.lbs wastegate actuator
Grimmspeed 3 port solenoid
Any suggestions guys?
Thanks in advance

It allows 731, 750, 770, and 790 nin merlins guid.
I just got back from an hour long cruise section utilizing injector scaling method two outlined in merlins guide.
750 injector size, wich is the 1.15 scaling decrease from 880.
Here are the latencies.
4.69 - 3.312
7.03 - 2.256
9.38 - 1.368
11.72 - .984
14.06 - .840
16.41 - .576
18.68 - .456
Results are stellar! -0.17xx on ltft low, and -1.7683 in the ltft mid. With an 02 feedback averaging +/- 3.000
In merlins guide 750 is skipped. Most users use the 770 or 790 scaling. I ran the same tests through the 770 scaling and the 790 scaling over the last 6 days and never got this close.

Well, interesting now. Drove around for the last 2 hours to check and see what other things need to be ironed out. Fuel trimms showing weird issues again... +5 in the ltft low, and -5 ltft mid... with 02 feedback of +/- 1%.
Edit:Looking through logs, I realized an issue with the Fuel Lean spool I turned back on and some of the trailing times... As I looked over and solved my issue, I changed the trailing time on the lean side and leaned out the 4k-6k range accidently. But it got me thinking about an issue at idle, and how lean spool effects idle?
Ideas?

Question pertaing to LTFT MID... What cruising speed are you guys cruising at when you try to dial in your mid trim?
I have interesting result at different speeds, with various latencies and scalings, with 8 hours worth of data logs, and can see different latencies or scalings working for different target cruising speeds. So I am curious what speed you guys concider cruise for your mid trim scaling? Is it freeway speed, i.e 65 +, or intown cruising speed 35~45? Can some of you pro tuners and legends pipe in please?
Thanks in advance.

Just spoke with PTE and they tell me that I need a stand alone injector driver box for these low impendence injectors. Anyone heard of this?
He said what is happening is that the factory ECU is only capable of running two of the low impedence injectors vs. with the high impedence injectors which the stock ECU is capable of handling.

I thought they were low impedance as well. Asked a couple other people and they said that the driver box isn't required but is sometimes used with larger injectors or in a case when you are using more than 4 injectors.
Todd, thanks for your post, however, scalled to 750 size, i have to give way bigger latencies.
Cruise trim and idle trim are with in 1%, Mid range power and fuel AFR's at 4K-5.5K are lean with low 12's.
When I use the 770 Scalings I get very similiar trim results, only way leaner in the 4k-5.5k AFR area with 12.5's.
Grant from PTE suggests scaling "global fuel size down -46.1% off of base"
SUggest latencies at 14v to be .700... He also suggested that I must use the High Impedance to low impedance driver box addon...
Someone want to calculate the stock fuel pressure, and then calculate the fuel pressure with the addition of bigger fuel rail, walbro pump, 880's and stock regulator?
Tuning is done with lean spool off, egr disabled, etc. For the most part, my AFR's in my High octane fuel map mach that in my logs, and on guage, right in line with merlins guide, except for a few areas where it is saying it should run at mid 11's in the 4-5k range, but is yielding 12's. Curisosity if this is my 272 Kelfords roaring to life in the mid range and leaning the fuel mixture out from there, to top side...?
SPoke with Jamie at Dynotech, I think that is Jack of trades if I remember right...
If not, Jamie thank you for your values.
Jamie's suggested Scaling and latencies:
Scaled at 770
4.69 - 3.312
7.03 - 2.256
9.38 - 1.368
11.72 - .840~1.008
14.06 - .672~.792
16.41 - .360~.600
18.68 - .456
I will try those and log tonight. Tomorow I will be on the road again for another 350 mile drive. Testing latencies again. It would be great if Jamie, now that he has my maps in his email, could give me a heads up with scalings values, seaing all the parts I have. I have alot of "AIR" parts. 4" intake hard pipe, Huge intercooler, MAP REV.3 intake plenum, and big long duration cams... My FBTB is on its way back for a bad butterfly valve assembly, so running stocker currently with these latencies. Thats a lot of air to contend with. Injecter duty cycle in boost is only seeing 50% give or take... What is going on?
Here are the latencies I have to run to get the trims in line for 750cc Size.

Bump, someone please reply to some of these last posts.
Im seeing in my logs how speed at cruise changes your trims. i.e. 50 miles an hour will yield almost perfect 0.000 cruise trim at my current scalings. At 80 miles an hour it adds 2.345 in the cruise trim. At idle, my cruise trim wants -5.678 now. So what is the target for cruise speed when scaling injectors and latencies for cruise? I can repeat this with any scaling at any speed, with cruise trim... If I scale for 0.000 trim error at (x)speed. and from their, trims will change as you increase or decrease speed from that target point.
Thanks in advance

Are you talking about short term or long term trims? Short term will ALWAYS fluctuate under a range of conditions. As long as the long term fuel trims are within +/-5% after they settle in, don't go crazy with it.

Jamie, Thank you, you rock. Just for the record, I think the circles I have gone in for the last 3 months has drove me crazy. So had I read on through the "Injector scaling method 2," it tell's me to cruz at 60... duh.
The 750 scalings listed in post 3 plus logs get me the closest. Those logs and rom will be in your email. Thanks a ton again.
At that point, I need to scale the maf, I think, which is very confusing. But I think I got it. We will see what Jamie comes back with in the morning.
Keep you guys posted.
