Here's a wierd one for you...
Ok stock ECU guru's, I have an interesting one for you.
A friend of mine bought an Evo8 with an Evo9 motor in it(stock 8 harness and 8 ecu...and a Mitsu dealer did the work!!!). The 9 harness is rediculously expensive and I couldn't find one when we were doing this stuff originally. I built him a custom conversion harness(https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=339595) and wired in the I-CAS, and the MIVEC spool valve. Took a stock 9 map, put the immob code from his 8 ecu in it, and the car would not start. Tried multiple diff maps, checked all my wiring, nothing. Today I disabled the immob and the car fired right up, runs just fine. (wow, 70+ wires merged from two different harnesses and they are all perfect...). The car tuned out fine and is running great. I'm just really intrigued, why will the immobilizer not work on the 9 ecu in the 8 car? |
We have a customer that just did the same thing. Evo 9 motor in a Evo 8.
He however did use a Evo 9 harness and ECU. It's a Evo 9 cosworth stroker with a cosworth Mivec head and cosworth M3 cams. His immobilizer works just fine. However *I think* he is using the immoblizer that came with the Evo 9 ecu. I believe he had the car rekeyed and the immobilizer unit switched, but I am not 100% sure. I will ask him the next time he comes in. |
Man if I ever do a rebuild I am gonna buy a evo9 long block then. Would that pass emissions with it being an evo 8?

yes, all the emissions items are the same between cars. Besides you can go newer, but not older.
