Rich AFR's after shifting to next gear.
I tried searching with all the possible combination of terms for information on this but couldn't come up with much. Hopefully we can get some helpful info, links in here.
Anyhow, I did a bit of logging and testing while tuning a friends car the other night. After setting the boost levels and moving onto the AFR's...I was able to get a nice sweet 11.3-11.1 AFR curve under full boost during 3rd gear pulls. Being familiar with the ECU's rich after shift changes, I logged a 2nd-3rd gear pull. 2nd gear AFR's were in the 11.6-11.4's...with 3rd gear seeing a whole point richer than before...mid-low 10's. Car pulled great, no knock..timing advancement where I needed it. Went ahead and did another 3rd gear pull to see if it would be the same as before, sure enough 11.3-11.1's. Is there a cure for this in an effort to extract some more power without leaning out the target AFR tables while tuning in 3rd gear and aside from going EMS? Lean spool is enabled on this car like stock. Thanks! Jorge R. |
Disable lean spool if you don't like this, or if you want to use lean spool and have good gas, run 12:1 on your first pull that will richen as you drive it harder.

does he have an atmo bov?
otherwise its probably the low load high rpm part of the table that is too rich. |
lean spool
|
we shoot for around 12.0 to 11.9 in 3rd 4th will usually drops right where we want it.
|
lean spool and tune for the load areas where you get back on the throttle.

Sorry to be redundant but disalbeing lean spool will help prevent afrs from getting richer as you enter the next gear?
|
bump for an answer to the question above.

Thank you.

What else does leanspool do besides richen up AFRS? Whats the purpose of making it richer?
|
^^^ leanspool richens up the AFR to allow the engine to run cooler and be more knock resistant.

It is routine I suspect Mitsu used to make the factory tunes more reliable for a wide range of enviornments, for people that don't go out and log their car daily...
