As we all know there is already a great thread on tunning MIVEC. However, I was hoping this thread could talk specifically about MIVEC tuning for Cosworth cams.

What have you found to make power with these cams?

What kind of cam advance during spool, what about at higher RPM's?

Does anyone have a map they would not mind sharing?

Also what settings tend to idle the best and dont throw any CEL's. I just want the power of the cams...not the rough idle and lopiness.

The rough idle will be there no matter what because it is a function of the size of the intake cam. You will notice this has zero advance at an idle, where with the S1 I tend to add some so it acts like it has cams. I am going to be buying a set of these come tax time to do some testing. This is one map that I have been trying on Cossie equipped cars. I havent tried the other option on Cossie's, though Bigric09 has with some success.

So are the Cossies always going to have a lumpiness at idle or can it be tuned away for the most part. Also could that map be used for the S1 cams to have a less aggressive idle.

Well for the S1 I would use my S1 map just set the idle to 0* and then the idle would be smooth with them yes.

Bigger cams make more cylinder pressure so to a certain extent they help spool all on their own. BigRic09 is actually using my S1 map with his Cossies and finished the tune on his own, but he found that it worked very well. It is almost the same as my stock cam map actually. 6.6* of advance by 8K and he made 384 on a mustang at 27psi on meth. I am sure he will chime in by morning.

Actually I just noticed that didnt have the rescaled RPM in it for some reason. Yeah those number will be up a few rpm from where they are now. Just a sec and I will go fix it.

Sorry JB meant WOT peak torque and midrange. Most of the stock cams maps I have seen from you favor 28+ 3500 to 4500 or so. Where this cosworth map has 22.2 at 3500, 19.2 4-4500, and 14.4 5-5500.

Did you find that you lost power with more mivec advance in those areas with the cosworth cams?

Okay so I have too many different forms of the same Cosworth map and no time stamps on anything. I believe the one that is up there now was the last one I did. Judging by the RPM to advance it should be really close, thanks for the good call Bryan. Yes too much advance seemed to negatively affect the load when I'd log for a street tune and since thats 95% of how I came up with most of these its the only way I have to tell if it worked or not. It is a touch different now that the RPM is where it should be. Sorry for all the confusion guys, up too late I guess.

JB - just to clarify, is the MAP posted what you would run for cosworths or do you need to update it with different RPM scaling?

How does this map compare to what you have done for the S1's?

The map that is now posted includes slightly altered RPM scaling for the MIVEC as well. The S1's seem to like advance all the way to redline, where the Cossies dont seem to as much.

JB: What steps would you take to tame (as much as possible) the lopiness/stumbliness of the idle with cossies?

Idle RPM and Idle Timing? or is there more to it (specific) ?

Yeah, thats the only option to get it somewhat stable. It wont be smoother, just less likely to stall.
