I think it should work but I'm wanting everyone option or if it matters.
with the accessport come the OBDII with the extra clip that plug right next to the OBDII slot, that is attatched to a cable with a USB plug which plugs into the ap, but in turn it could also plug into a computer while its hooked up from what I can tell. it wouldnt matter if I had a laptop plugged in with a tuning software running on that instead of the ap right?
If I were to do this I know I would have to flash it back to stock and un-marry the ap and then use whatever to tune it.
Does this sound like it would work?

It probably can't hurt to give it a try. It *looks* like the tactrix cables. Plug it into a PC, run EcuFlash and try to read the rom. That should be safe to try (I think).
