can i take my STi to Spain?
Maybe a little late to reply but in fact it's not too hard unless you're planning on registering it there.
What you need is your car fully paid off since US customs and freight companies require you to have a title in your name. Then you have to find an insurance carrier which will insure your car during your stay over and that's about it. The hardest thing is the insurance. From my own research it seems some companies are willing to do that, like Geico for example. Other than that, you might be able to find an oversees company which will do it for ya as well.
To ship your car over I would recommend container shipping not RO-RO.
RO-RO is a boat which allows them for easy load / easy unload (ROll-on ROll-off), is a bit less expensive than container but has many restrictions such as you can't leave anything in your car, and they're not liable if anything from your car is missing.
When your car is in a container you can load it up with ****, they seal it after the customs and you pick it up on the remote end.
Good luck.

FYI: You do not have to have your car payed off to ship it overseas if your in the military......All you need is a simple letter from whoever you have your car loan through that states "We allow Jeb Bush or whoever to ship their car overseas to this location" when you take your car to the port with all the other paperwork make sure you have this on you also....plus it's always nice to have extra copies of the title and everything else....

Primarily the main modification to be done is the lighting. As far is the emissions it is much easier in Europe however they wouldn't allow you to run wider tires, bigger brakes or engine mods unless is approved by an industrial engineer and it must be certified on the ITV card.
The cars are excempt for the first 5 years from new, then every 2 years until the car is 9 years old, after that is every year.
The ITV inspection cost around $25. Additionally you have to have a document called Permiso de circulacion which is the equivalent of registration.
This registration is based on displacement of the car being more expensive as the bigger the displacement is.
Once you get your current ITV certification then is valid on any European country that participates on the European community.
