AMS tune for stock Evo 9
AMS tune for stock Evo 9
First of all, this thread is going to stick out like a sore thumb from the typical threads here, like "550whp/520tq on pump gas!", but what the hell. I welcome people's feedback, but just remember that everyone has to start somewhere. This is a DD and my goals were *very* modest.
A few months ago I posted a thread "Tune for a stock evo - worth it?"
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...evo-worth.html
Most people said a tune alone will pick up 15-25whp, but that if mods are planned in the near future, it's better to wait.
Well, I decided to get a tune on my near-stock Evo 9, which has only a cone filter and Tanabe catback exhaust (stock cat, stock downpipe, no mbc). The tune picked up nearly 50 ft lbs, around 3200rpm (and 30whp), with peak increase of 16whp and 27 ft lbs (19psi and in 77 degree temp). I don't think a catback and filter would yield more than 15-20whp, so a bone-stock evo would probably have been around 235-240whp (which is roughly what AMS said a bone stock evo 9 would put down).
Despite the low numbers, the car definitely feels stronger and the power is more linear.
AMS deserves their reputation. They are a very friendly, dedicated group of guys and I will definitely be going back in the future.
