tom, you need to drop the tank and clean it proper. just draining leaves too much behind. flush with water from the top. add ball bearings or smooth rocks and agitate. flush, repeat. then dry with heat gun.. I have had to do this many times with older cars that sat up for a while.
This car only has 57K miles on it. if i have no other choice i will do it though. but im first going to just drain and go from there.
I am praying its only because i didnt pull the drain plug on that side and there fore there is just loose dirt down there that never found its way out and the pump is sucking it up.
If the ethanol is colored as it is pumped I wouldn't worry but loose dirt and gunk in the fuel tank is bad news. At the least drain and run water through for a long time to get it as clear as possible. Removing the tank sucks bad but it may be your only option. I highly recommend keeping a sealed evap system. That helps to prevent water from getting in the tank and causing corrosion.
You know i was really suspicious when i did the emission charcoal canister elimination i noticed the tank starting to form rust inside almost a few months later. it had never done that before.
I'm going to put the system back in the car because i really feel like that is causing the tank to get compromised.
if that doesn't fix it then i guess i have no other choice but to drop the tank or replace it and so forth.
Also once i get this resolved you can go for a ride. you are going to be really impressed how hard this thing pulls.
I gotta get this thing down the track after i fix this fueling issue.

First I want to say, this car is not completed yet, but i love sharing stuff so i cant help myself but to post it in here for others to view even with an existing fueling issue still.
The entire goal for this car when building it this time around I had in mind of making it feel as responsive as my old 2.3 and fp black setup. Thats why i opted to the larger 2.4 displacement when going up a step with the turbo. I feel i more then exceeded my goals and my expectations so far.
The only negative thing here is, now that the car is this powerful in tq at such low RPM's it really makes it dangerous. I noticed right away i limited my ability with this car drastically now where i can and cant floor it, which really sucks.
but enough of the talk most of you don't read it anyways.
It is important you do read this however: This car has a current ongoing fueling issue. More on that is shown here https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/al...ntinued-7.html
Before the system clogged up again fully I got some decent pulls out of the car that i feel really show its potential so i want to show you guys so far what ive produced.
Car is still running break in SAE 30 brad penn oil as well.

Theres more but i cant think right now. Heres two pics of engine bay also and then the graphs so far. I will post better results later on once i fix the fueling issue and get my afr in the 11.0-11.8 range.
So I got to load the car up a few times to see how responsive it was and it was pretty awesome.
This one i started at 4200RPM and it still hit pretty decent:

This one i loaded it up around 3500RPM and it really made a bunch of low end tq:

Thats almost 600wtq before 5k RPM in 3rd gear. Keeping in mind it does have a really long 3rd gear though, since its a 4.11 final drive.
Heres the engine bay for those who havent seen it yet:

Once I get the fueling issue fixed and feel more comfortable with the car ill go pro some videos to really show how hard this thing pulls.

I can't wait. 700-750 is the goal for my car so if I can see how I like it riding in yours that will be a great idea. I can't wait to install my 4.11 and new synchros plus new clutch. My sychro in 4th is dead!
I didnt open the drain plug at all on the driver side, and thats the side that was really bad. the passenger side was pretty clean from the beginning. the driver side really was dirty.
Im gonna drain it from the tank since it makes perfect sense that theres still dirt down there.
ya you're right also. i think they are just baffle tanks. we cant see under them because the drain plugs down there and it cant be seen from uptop.
Thanks guys i appreciate the help. AreSTG if you had this turbo on your car it would go 160 in full street trim. if you think about it that's insane!
I also highly recommend not reusing the drained fuel. forget the time/effort invovled and look at just the cost. No way a couple of gallons of E85 (that's supect anyway due to it's odd color AND known debris in it) is worth the motor, injectors, pump, lines, who knows what.
The 6466 is definitely tempting. Refreshing my motor right now, we think I've beaten it long and hard enough now that it's better to be safe. It has me definitely contemplating new turbo options. Mostly, I'm not changing to another "stock appearing" turbo, because I don't like the direction they've gone. They're still stock flanged, but not remotely stock appearing. So if I move up from the black, it'll probably be to a 64mm turbo. But, that means it's definitely cage time, and there goes my "Street trim" setup. Decisions...
Also, seen a couple of posts from Bryan recently. Welcome back?
You can see in the pic he is running a filter off the turbo. R2 cams in my opinion aren't that great compared to the s3. They seem to be like the s2 rather then the s3. Besides that Tom's 2.4 isn't a stroker.
My comment was not to take away from these results at all. cause he is getting great torque from open scroll and 6466. for me looking at this build its pretty much " car gets what it needs, cost and time not a factor" . with no a/c and half radiator, I would have used the 9180 on this setup. theres no question in my mind the results would be superior in the response department. how much I dont know. to be honest there has only been one decent EFR build on these forums. and that was the first 7670 done at roadrace over three years ago. I want to see someone with good build knowledge setup a 8374 or 9180. I truly think it would change the game. people do choose parts largely from seeing results posted. What i can only know for sure is everyone who tried one has the same comment. "you have to drive it to understand" the dyno graphs are not displaying the whole picture. here is a juicy 8374 on a 4g63. really no other 700hp turbo on these forums comes close to spool like this. regardless of whether dyno reads high or low you only have to look at the sharp climb in torque curve. sucker builds torque fast.

dont be a troll. thats not what I said at all. go reread what I said before you make stupid comments.
Awesome power and response man, the 2.4L motor is a beast, especially with a V-band Turbine housing. It is amazing how responsive the turbo is.
Good call on the S3's, stroker motors LOVE big cams!
E85 makes lots of Torque when you run it lean like that, be careful

My question is why are people calling the 2.4 a stroker motor when it isn't a stroker its a 2.4 lol. I thought people were smarter then that. Last I checked a stroker motor consists of stroking out the stock version of the motor. Last I checked the 2.4 is a total different motor.
yeah, so the drain plug on pax side if it even had fuel, was all getting syphoned over to driver side, could have taken most/all the debris over to driverside.

What i learned today is, there's a baffle bowl in the passenger side. i could put my hand over it and out on the sides and stuff. on the driver side its like sealed off on the top and stuff.
I decided not to use the fuel. I just drained it today and i flushed it a few times and a lot of dirt came out. theres a lot more flushing to do, but its starting to get better. but i think its going to take a lot of time and patience to flush this thing out properly.
A lot of black particles came out small specs of black dots. i really think its from the accident. how the car cracked down so hard it shocked the entire car so it rattled the debri in the tank loose that probably normally wouldnt ever come loose. That and maybe the fuel evap in the rear being eliminated may have helped get moisture in the tank and create water and start to form some surface rust.
haha. Thanks for taking my offer / trade on yours Scott
This thing has seen a lot of crazy **** so far. from your spinning out at over 140mph to me almost flipping the car, and it still survived
S3's usually outperform the R2's with this kind of setup thats why i went with them.
Ya S3's are a perfect match for a 2.4. Its the opposite on the torque. its going to pick up a lot more torque once i richen it out.
crappy tires & wheels. the wheels are out of balance. when i went to do a 4th gear pull the steering wheel started shaking from a 3-4 shift.
Blizzak 235/45/17 and the wheels are 17" Mitsu FQ 400 oem wheels that are curbed to hell from when i wrecked the car so they are way out of balance.
I have evo 9 BBS wheels with new 245/45/17 Nitto's at my friends house that i have to get and then ill put those on.
Suspension wise the car has:
Energy suspension bushings
whiteline front roll kit
megan street coilovers

Highly interested in seeing 1/4 times and trap speed for these power levels. I am still a little afraid of commiting to a 2.4 because I don't know how 4th gear is going to be crossing the finish line
My car is mostly setup for drag and highway pulls and I don't want to lose that
Have you done any 2.1 4g64 builds/tunes ?
