I apologize if this has already been reviewed on this specific platform, but I am looking to see or know about others who are running the 2.4 stroker setup using the Holset HX40 turbo even if you upgraded the compressor wheel and housing. What numbers are you producing on both 93 octane and e-85? Also what were the spool characteristics from the overall rep we hear about them being very laggy, I just assume this particular 2.4 platform will greatly reduce the lag depending on other proper supporting mods! Cheers!
[QUOTE=MaLo EvoVIII;11662655]It's not a 2.4, but maybe it can give an idea of what to expect.
I've seen this particular thread , but the this graph shows max spool around 5500 rpm or so on a 2.0. That's exactly where I'm trying to find the comparison from that of a 2.0 vs a 2.4LR
I guess I'm going to have to post up my numbers shortly on what my setup does on pump gas and e85.
The truth behind Holset's are that you need to run a manifold designed to work with the design of the turbo. The manifold needs to be a split-pulse design to make optimal use of the divided entry housing. There are some other tricks too, to avoid having the typical very laggy results that many have experienced.
I've made ~680whp with HX40's on a number of different platforms including:
Toyota 1JZ
Toyota 2JZ
BMW M3 (S54)
Opel C20XE 2.0 litre 4 cylinder (18 psi wastegate opened at 4200 rpm on this application)
Mazda DISI 2.3
The standard HX40 has a 12 blade turbine wheel whereas the OEM Holset performance version uses a different turbine wheel. I've only used this Performance version called the Super 40. North American forums incorrectly label any 6 or 7 blade 60mm HX40 as a Super, when in fact there are differences on both the turbine and compressor wheel.
IMO there are better turbos out there, at a cheaper price, to hit your goals.
I'm very familiar on turbo selection I'm currently using a FP Black turbo
But I'm just anxious to see how well this HX40 does since it's already in my posession
The black hits its maximum around 650 whp or so give or take at maximum threshold though I've seen higher numbers...
My HX40 has a 67mm billet compressor wheel and .82 T3 housing V band disharge
Going on a fully built 2.4LR, R2 cams, ported cylinder head, etc etc
Just literally trying to see if there were any similar builds to anticipate maximum spool on this platform since nothing is surprising anymore such as combinations...

Did you upgrade the turbine wheel also ? The 67mm billet comp wheel will outflow the capability of the 64mm turbine wheel.
I think it will work nicely, like I said manifold design is key. You have the displacement, cams and headflow to make it work.
I have a stock block 60mm hx40 .63 ar housing. spool under 5k 511whp e85 mustang dyno and 410 on 93, out of fuel on a single 450 with fic 2150s also has bc 276 cams with curt brown ported head and intake/tb
I run a Holset HE351VE with lil' blackbox on my 2.3L talon. I initially had the oil feed from the oil filter housing using the stock drain. It would blow blue smoke after 10 minutes of hard driving. I moved the oil feed to the head and it solved the issue.

too high oil pressure from the OFH I imagine? what was your pressure?
Me having deleted the balance shaft and using GSC race shaft and oil cooler delete, my Evo is hitting 100 psi of oil pressure from cold starts and then lowers down to around 40 or so idling... crazy high but Im thinking about running the oil feed to the head but in fear of not supplying enough oil pressure. but on the other hand I do have a custom 12an drain that im fabricating that may still allow me to manage the high oil pressure as long as its draining it adequately.
