Injectors that add horsepower
EnglishRacing has been working with Fuel injector Clinic for the last 8 years, doing testing with various projects helping to improve fuel delivery and control. When we were able to last pow-wow in person at the PRI show in December we were clued in on something that is really revolutionary.
The new SP Line of Fuel injector Clinic fuel injectors. Working in close cooperation with ASNU fuel injection in the UK, Fuel injector Clinic has been able to come up with an injector that can actually add horsepower with no other changes in the tune. We arent talking small gains that can be statistical error either, how about 21whp at the same timing and AFR? The test subject- 06 Evo IX "Project Garage Sale" Used 35R kit laying around the shop Used Greddy EZ Cams laying around the shop ETS 3" FMIC and piping ETS 3" exhaust ER SD tune with Omnipower 4 bar E20 fuel (mixed in house) used in all tests Initially FIC 850 low impedance injectors (880cc flow) One of the workhorses of the Fuel injector Clinic low impedance line and an injector that I have tuned in countless cars, the 850 was dialed in and provided the following results- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps3a3df637.jpg To make sure these tests were as accurate as possible I "Big Al'd" the timing and blocked it in so that there was no way for the timing curve to deviate. Boost was set with a manual, monitoring was done via EvoScan and the dyno to make sure the boost was consistent between all the pulls. All testing was within 30 minutes of each other to allow time for the injector installs. Coolant temp was used as the starting point for each pull, 185* and the pull would commence. Next up was a set of of FIC 1100s which with the new technology in the spray pattern were a no brainer if they were going to pick up power- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psb81a5ba9.jpg and here are the 2 transposed- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psae2b452e.jpg Last up was the new FIC1050SP that Fuel injector Clinic wanted us to test. Not knowing how they were going to react I did take a little longer to get them dialed at idle and cruise before I made a WOT pull. This only added an additional 10 minuted over the time between the FIC850 and the FIC1100. The results speak for themselves though- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps30585361.jpg And here are the 3 overlaid, notice that not only did the 1050SP make more power it spooled faster and made more low end torque as well- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps2af6aa98.jpg I can barely wait to see this technology applied to the the new line of high impedance injectors that will be released this year as well as adding it to the existing line up. At 5200 it was up 25 ft lbs of torque as it actually increased spool and allowed the car to make more boost there than it had before. This was consistent between all the pulls we did as well. At 5700 its still up 20 ft lbs and then holds those gains all the way out the top. There was one pull after this that I didnt include that actually had made an additional 8whp. I left it off as there was an apparently errant boost spike but these injectors are definitely not messing around. We ran the boost out higher and were able to get this- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psa175f51a.jpg Though it looks like knock at 7500 it was only running 11* so it was a little erratic there and then jumped to 13* rather than run smoothly between. I had the cells not as smooth as they needed to be. Aaron |
Good ish, nice work! So, is it a spray pattern change? Any chance the new High Z injectors will work with Oxygenated fuels?
|
Holy moly.......that's pretty impressive, thanks very much for sharing these amazing results Aaron.

Very impressive.

"Big Al'd" the timing, lol! Nice results, thanks for sharing Aaron!
|
That's Awesome!!
|
Wow! Are they going to do this with injectors around 1450's? Are the injector dimensions the same in diameter?

I am not sure how much of the specifics I am allowed to reveal on the changes but spray pattern is a definite large part of what is going on.
As far as I know the plan is the new mid sized Hi-Z injectors that are being planned, the 1400 & 1600, will use this technology. This will not be applied to any of the low impedance injectors. To be clear on the "Big Al" timing I have all the load cells in boost set the same per a given rpm. So 3500 and 20psi is all 4* let's say, 4000 is 5*, etc. and it doesnt matter if its 20 or 30psi its the same. |
These will also work with fuels that have MTBE in them.

Interesting results, that is really cool{thumbup} Its amazing what new technology is out there and nice to see that products such as fuel injectors continue to improve.
Im curious as to if you think the results would be even greater using e85 since even more fuel would be needed... Has FIC given any insight as to pricing on these bad boys? |
ya i like fic a lot as a product and a company in general. they have the best customer service and aftercare support i've ever seen. i sell nothing but those brand injectors to my customers. sold hundreds of sets and never had an unhappy customer with them to date.
fic is awesome. cool test to show how important spray pattern & injector functionality in general is. |
Just noticed something, so before it gets brought up I will fill in the details. I grabbed run 7 for the FIC1100 test which shows an 11.22 AFR instead of the 11.7 we ran the test at. I didnt have it dialed 100% on that pull but run 8 was back to 11.7 with no variance in power until almost 8k and then only 3hp as I chopped the run.

I would assume with better atomization we could potentially see better fuel consumption? Are you going to do a test to see if this increases the MPG? I'm absolutely sold on picking a set up already.
Also on the vehicle you used, are you on COP with a CDI box? |
