Electrical issue with Defi control unit after navi install

My control unit does not light up now that I have my navi installed...it lights up for a second when I turn on the car, so I know its working...but if I turn on the headlights, it stays dark. I also figured out that I did not hook up the ILL wire from my navigation, because the navi does not dim when I switch my headlights on. I called up Pioneer and they said this wire should be orange (ILL) but I couldnt find an orange wire. Any ideas on how to fix this? I used the Metra wiring harness from Best Buy for the HU...its a Pioneer Z1 if that helps. Thanks

How many other electronics are you running? It just may not be getting enough power (since it lights up, and dims once the headlights go on). Try installing a ground wire kit, or run a better battery (optima).

I'm only running my Defi gauges and the navigation...my car has 7k miles. I HIGHLY doubt its the battery...my voltage is never consistently below 13.5 (when I monitor it through the HU).

like a cigarette lighter? would the ground really affect it and not make it dim? i would think that would short out the car or something...
