Aftermarket alarms and dealership
Have anyone get their electrical warranty denied by the dealership because you have an alarm on the car (jsut the alarm, not remote start)? Have anyone ever get hassled by the dealership? My dealership is telling me that if I get an alarm and I ever go in for a some electrical problems, they would disconnect the alarm before working or deny me warranty (electrical)....What's up with that?
yup its absolutely true. every time a car comes in for an electrical problem, the bone head mechanic will immediately blame it on the alarm and disconnect it. they might not deny warranty immediately but if the problem is traced to the alarm, you'll be paying for it.
i'm the alarm installer at a dealership, i couldn't count how many times a day techs will come up to me and blame something on the alarm. especially when its for a drain.

The Mangusson-Moss Act passed by Congress makes this illegal. You can get a copy from the SEMA.ORG website. They always blame anything aftermarket for any problems. This is against the law unless they prove it. In the case of alarms though they are usually correct because some hack with the cheapest price did a poor install. If I dropped the under dash panel and saw a mess that would probably be my assumption too.
The voiding your warranty thing is pretty funny though since the dealer will offer aftermarket systems either installed by their own tech or from an expeditier that gives wholesale pricing and does a **** job in a half hour. I have been paid by dealerships to reinstall alarms that they removed when a car had a problem. I did a Hummer for Coors that had 40K of stuff in it, lights, audio, security, self start etc. The guys that work for Coors blew the engine and the first thing the techs did was tear apart my months worth of labor. In the end they paid me $4700 to redo everything. My accessories worked perfectly, it was that total crap GM deisel that was the problem and I had the law on my side.
I heard the same thing from a Mercedes service manager because I added some things to my wifes car, I told him I need their denial in writing signed by him with the exact reason. For Exhibit A in my lawsuit and so I can send a copy to the State Attorney General with a copy of the Mangusson-Moss Act They fixed my dome light without question after that.

what? you're an alarm installer from the dealership? too bad the local dealership doesn't alarm install here. but your "cheat sheet" of wiring diagram helped me a lot in figuring out how to install my compustar with RS. The alarm works fine, remote starts without any problem and I'm ready to install to proximity sensor and tilt-motion detectors already
