Quick Question About H-U Install
Quick Question About H-U Install
In order to connect the harness that came with the head unit to the mitsu one I need to either solder them or crimp them together? Has anyone just stripped the wires, tied them, then sealed them?

Why not just get the Crutchfield harness or the Metra Universal harness so you don't have to "hack" any wires on the stock (mitsu) harness? What I did with my Alpine was crimped the wiring from the included alpine harness with a Metra Mitsu Universal harness (Best Buy) and then plug it in to the stock mitsu harness. No messing with the stock harness incase I need to "go back to stock".
Also, if you buy a HU that is being sold at Circuit City, you can purchase the Metra Smart Harness specifically made to plug into your particualr brand of HU. Then you buy the Metra Smart Harness for the Mitsu, plugging it into the stock mitsu harness. Finally, you plug the two Metra Smart harness together...true Plug and Play with no sodering and crimping of any sort. However, the Metra Smart harness is only made for CCity and whatever brand they carry.

Well I actually work in the car audio department of best buy, I have the Metra harness I was just wondering what the best method to connect my alpine harness to my metra harness was. thanks for the tip though I think I'll just have one of my installers crimp it up for me.

Soldering is said to be the best, however, crimping is just as good. I basically did what you said, twist the two wires, put a cap on it, crimp it and done. Havent' had problems yet and it was simple to do.
