Amp Install Question

K, guys. Found a sticky in the US Lancer section on system install.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ht=amp+install

1. According to this, I feed the red power wire from the battery to the driverside fender and through the gourment by the door. Looks fairly easy, however, one concern is what about water? When that cable be easy access for water (undercarriage wash, rain, etc..)? Is this method described safe?

2. Did you guys drill your own holes throught the firewall or use an existing one? If so, which one (where)? PIcs would be nice if possible

Drill a hole in the firewall, routing your power cable around moving parts (such as door jam area's) is a complete rookie move, and over time can and probably WILL wear enough to arc on the door jam.

I installed one amp under the passenger seat and the other under the driver's seat. I ran the 4gauge cable across the shock tower brace and down behind the engine. There is a rubber grommet in the center tunnel. I drilled a hole in that and ran the cable through that hole. I then sealed around the cable with RTV sealer. That was over a year ago and I haven't had any water ingress. I mounted a T junction under the center console and then ran one power wire to each amp. Sorry I didn't take any pictures. Just make sure you tie-wrap the power wire away from any moving (driveshaft)/hot (exhaust pipe) parts.

I installed an amp in my wifes lancer (now gone) and there was a gromet on the firewall on the passenger side. It was high enough that water intrusion wasn't a concern.

Yea usually all cars come wit extra holes filled wit grommets u just gotta find them. Seems like u have so that shouldnt be a problem. u run the Red wire directly to the battery and around and away from any moving parts of course. If u are extra worried about water getting in or damaging u could always opt to buy a plastic sleeve kit which comes in black or w/e color. just for extra protection although it being by itself would cause no harm but making extra precautions are always better in the end.

If u take the task of drilling your self then u could go for one of these.

They are just firewall bushings and wont allow water in at all.

And heres a vid from Crutchfield.com on installing a amp should also come in handy.

Hope all this helps.
