Evo Fiberglass enclosure review
Try a mixture of bondo, resin and very small pieces of fiberglass mat. Don't know if he used some kind of rubber cement in with the resin then added the hardener but try small batches and see what works best. I would think he added a rubberized substance to reduce the sound of the fiberglass resonance.
Alright folks, i know there's concerns with this box being thin. First off, we are offering to take these boxes back, thicken them and ship them back. If that is not an option for you, i can suggest a few methods of thickening it on your own without compromising build quality. Like i said a hundred times in this post THIS BOX WILL NOT EXPLODE! I full-heartedly agree that the box is thin and we have addressed it and it's been fixed. There is a simple mix you can do at home to make this thing tight as a drum, no resonance.
Notec - As for not responding to your PM, I simply didnt have time when i got that, i've been in the process of buying a house and like i said i do this on my own time. I apologize for issues and i wish i had caught that in time to have offered you a replacement.
As for your picture where you could see light through the box, if the resin did not have food coloring in it to show when it's mixed and had it not been gelcoated slightly, you would be able to see shapes through the box too simply because industrial resin cures extremely translucent. (Also due to it being thin, i'm not ruling that out).

I put a small bracket in the back of the enclosure to help secure it so it wouldn't roll across the trunk. What methods can you suggest like it says in your above post?

If anyone else has any issues, i'd appreciate not post-bashing me or my shop. Feel free to give me a call at my shop mon-fri 9-6 sat 9-5 est at 603-642-4222. I'd like to make good by all of you and this thread is kinda childish.
You cant judge my thread as it is informative and a very very thorough review. It got something accomplished didnt it? Magicboxes stepped up their quality on these Evo boxes. Everything posted in this thread is the truth. The next thread that I post will be the truth about whatever product it is I'm reviewing. I did the Evo community a favor and a great service. Great reviews result in better products.
I don't think anyone is bashing you or your shop. It would be nice if you just posted up simple fixes here for those of us that don't feel like shipping the thing back. Everyone agrees it looks badass, the shipping is instant and it fits like a glove. You have one minor problem that I certainly hope is fixed now that it has been brought to your attention. No harm no foul.

Would a products such as this http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...roducts_id=451 work ok for thickening and getting rid of the resonance?

all i was saying is that if there is a problem with something, contact me! thats all, if you saw the way the rest of our boxes are built you would never think our Evo box came from the same glass shop. We've tried to smash the face off a couple of our boxes to make them hold other size woofers and haven't been able to do so without unreasonable force. For some reason, my boss told the glass shop to make this box "light" while he did that, i think he was referring to one particular instance and unfortunately the glass shop just kept popping them out that way. It's been addressed, i've offered a solution... While i agree it's a crappy situation to have to ship it back to have it thickened it's much better than having it blow apart like the fear is. or to shell out the money to do so yourself. As much as i would love to say yeah we'll pay from shipping back, it's not my call and so far the owner has no intention of doing that.
Let me put it at a business standpoint. This is a product WE buy now, we may have built the original but we have to buy copies to sell them to you. We offered a very very reasonable/low buy-in price for the forum members and even offered free shipping. Now to be willing to take them, spend labor hours to fix it, material to make it better and pay for shipping back, we've honestly lost money for the simple fact that we want these boxes to be respected and loved around the forum. I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND BEING FRUSTRATED!! Trust me, at this point i am as well because i feel like i was trying to do my shop a favor and i'm getting crapped on by the customers and by my boss for being "on your side".
So to make a long story short, just send them back to be fixed, get em back and pound the **** out of your sub cuz you're gonna be able to detonate a grenade in that box when you get it back and not hear it lol. Sorry if i've come off as an *** or anything negative i'm just trying to fix issues you guys may have.

I have built quite a few high power systems and have seen this first hand. I am a pro at this, have been so for way to many years and I learned from some real good installers.
Notec, this is not a stab at you personally but I am so sick of people thinking they are a audio installer now a days. Just because you can put a radio in doesn't mean you are one. That is the least of the field. People say they built this system that has 1400 watts and ran 12 gauge speaker wire to the amp, guess what, that is so far from being 1400 watts it isn't even funny. No one even knows **** anymore, at all whatever.
There are even guys on here who claim to be alarm installers and they just did there first one on there evo. I bet if someone looked under the dash, it would be like a spaghetti dinner threw up under your steering wheel.
You could put 4"'s of glass on this box and it will still flex, it is just the nature of it.
This is not entirely true. You do want an air tight enclosure, but even 3/4" mdf with a couple layers of glass inside for extra strength will flex given adiquete power.

Second, I won't take it as a stab at me personally. But for your info. I am an Electrical Engineer with a concentration in acoustics and other disciplines behind that. I used to install pprofessioonally during the years I was in school. I used to be a Pro. I mentioned above that I am not a Pro because that is the truth right now. I know what I am talking about. Period. And even with 1/0 awg power wire and 8 awg speaker wire, the average Joe still wouldn't get 1400 watts.
I beg you to look under the dash in my Evo and try to discern any of my electronic wiring from the factory wiring. You can also look under the dash of my VW but you may be able to see my wiring because its a lot neater and more organized than the factory rats nest. LOL
Last paragraph, yeah, I know it will still flex with 4" of glass but lets be serious. Concrete will flex. Titanium or carbon fiber will flex. Everything flexes. So lets please be seriious. If you had one of these enclosures, and did not know much about audio, you would appreciate a thread like this.
Please, I'm tired of people posting in threads how they feel about extremeties that have very little to do with the problem, solution, or main point of the thread. These enclosures should not flex to the degree that they do or did. I should have said that. I could have also mentioned that all materials will resonate. Where should I stop though?
Dennis F, I respect you because I have read many of the threads in the audio forums in which you posted in. You are knowledgable in this topic. I have also agreed with many of your suggestions and replies. Its all good sir.
Again, I thank MConsoliA4 for providing us with his shop's audio solution. The issue has been addressed and I am looking forward to seeing future happy customers post their thoughts on the upgraded enclosure. If this was a one time occurance, which he has already confirmed, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase other products from him. As you all can see, he is a class act and has addressed our concerns.

are you guys attatching the enclosure to the wall and to the floor as wickedcas recomends because if you do flexing isn an issue because its now part of the car. if you think it is flexing some were else besides the back then please chime in and let Matt know. but until you attatch it as told then you dont have much to complain about.
if i buy a super charger and only use some of the parts for it and then complain to the manufacturer that it doesnt work right they will laugh at you.

Chassis rigidity and structural integrity should not be compromised for weight. Products are engineered to be stronger, lighter, cheaper, and outperform its predecessors. If any of those elements are absent, then the logic and product itself are flawed.
