XM Radio installation
I have an XM Sportscaster and I'm having a little trouble on figuring out where to put everything. It doesn't look like any of the wires will be flush anywhere, you will definitely see it. Has anyone installed their own? I'm thinking of having it done professionally and I think that would be best before I messed it up. Anyone have any suggestions?
I mounted up my Sirius with no problems.
Just have to think out where you wanna put it, then see if the wires can be hidden behind the dash or A-Pillars, etc.
Where do you wanna mount it?

I want to mount it to the windshield above the dash, centered in the middle. I guess the problem I'm having is figuring out how to hide the wires without tearing into the car too much. I don't think I'd be able to fix it if I f***ed it up.
push it with a plastic bunch down under the plastic where the dash and windshield meet... thats what i did for my navi antenna... no removal of anything necessary. you can wire it across the windshield then down around under the dash

What about the magnetic antenna? Since the roof is aluminum, the magnet doesn't stick. How did you do it with that? I kept walking around the car, trying to find a good way to run the wires, but I don't want it to show too much. I think I might have to anyway. And the manual for the radio says to have the antenna 6 inches from the door. I think I can put it on the trunk lid.
I'll be installling my XM tomorrow-- I planned on centering the antenna on the trunk lid as well. I think reception will be fine, plus I can easily tuck it inside the trunk for security reasons if necessary.
My xm antena thing is on the dash up near the front window in the center. I've had XM since it first came out on 3 cars now, I've never once had an issue with it there.
No need to mount it outside the car.

It is recommended to mount the antenna outside the car but as S2Kguy has pointed out, mounting it inside the car probably wont cause any issues unless the windshield has a special element in it. It should be fine on the dash towards the windshield. Some guys have mounted both nav and sat. radio antennas on the rear deck but under the carpet covering.. Sometimes it works out well but in some cases, the defroster causes issues with the signal. Good Luck.

Sticking it on top of the third brake light doesn't seem like a bad idea. I think I'm going to have to accept the fact that some wires will show, which is what I don't want. Oh well
