aftermarket stereo install question

trying to install an aftermarket stereo. does anyone know what the color match ups are for a sony headunit. the factory harness and the sony harness use different colored wires. if somone could tell me what all the wire colors mean on the evo stock harness that would solve my problem. or post a link to somewhere that has them. ive done tones of searching but couldnt find info.

Does this car have SSL?

If not it is metra pt# 70-7001 for the wiring harness adapter. I can't remember the part number for the SSL package right now.

Sounds like you're trying to splice the sony harness into the stock harness? If that's the case, save yourself some hassle and buy a headunit harness for your car. Just buy one for a 2005 or newer lancer (might be 2003 and newer, I forget). Of course as the previous post noted you will need one other adapter if you have the ssl package, but I can't help you there.

you wont be able to get just the radio part from the factory you will have to order the whole thing. If you look on www.partsexpress.com you may be able to find what you are looking for.

Go to Circuit City and buy the Metra Smart Cables. Should be 27 bucks for both cables. One for your carside and one for your deck. The harnesses plug right into each other, No splicing/crimping is needed. If you can accord a 30grand car, You can afford 30 dollars worth of cables. Might as well do it right the first time and save some time and effort, Rather than saving a couple bucks.

i already cut the factory harness. this is why i continue to ask. i did not think that mitsubishi would be that much different from anything else. i was wrong. now i need to figure out what to do. so if someone could help me with the splicing instead of continuously telling me to go to circuit city that would be awesome.

There is an easy way to do it. Go to the store, buy metra pt# 70-7001 and plug it into the end you cut off. Then you can color match the wires to the guide on the back of the package the harness came in.

Quick question though, why the **** would you cut a harness out like that? You turned a 15 minute job into a fist **** worth of wasted time.
