Pulling stock steering wheel closer?

Has anyone done this? Would it lead to any possible safety concerns with the airbag being closer. I would really like it if my wheel was just 1 - 1.5" closer but too worried to go with a race wheel. Any thoughts?

I have been struggling with that too. There are a couple of wheel adapters on the market that act as an extension but they only work for after market wheels. I have seen two extensions ~1-2" in Hyperrev magazine, so you'd have to get those straight from Japan. The stock wheel has a single center bolt attachment, while aftermarket uses multiple bolts in a ring arrangement (like the fake plastic ones on the stock wheel). The extensions that I have seen convert the single bolt to the ring pattern, and then have another piece to convert the ring pattern back to the single bolt arrangement.

The only drawback I see is that the control stalks will be farther away from the steering wheel, so you'll need long fingers . As far as the distance from the deploying airbag, the impact should be negligible compared to the variation of people just adjusting the seating position (we are talking less than 2" here).

Thanks alot. I have the evo Hyperrev books but I have never seen these extensions before. Could you possibly be more specific about where I might find these?

HyperRev Vol 117, page 237 - one is made by SIGNAL and the other by SWAT RACING GEAR. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll scan the page.
