school me on double din tvs

I was pricing out gps units at best buy (really set on a garmin nuvi series) and started looking at the in dash tvs. now my friend starts telling me if I'm going to get gps and a tv get the pioneer avc 3 and get itall in one cause it'll be roughly the same as a nuvi + their cheaper Dual tv. I'm just afraid the pioneer navi will be hard to use or suck and I'd be better off with a detachable unit that I can swap from car to car...with that said is the price of the higher end units worth it over the cheaper dual units? I'm not looking to go crazy, just want to play dvds once in awhile....I just don't know if all the bells and whistles is worth it for me, any testimonies for either side?

The avic D3 is a really cool unit, one of the more popular ones I've put in. It has the bluetooth option too, which is an awesome feature. The navi software is real easy to use, and I've never heard any complaints from any of our customers about it. The downside is you have to take out the dvd nav to play normal dvd's, which if you have an ipod, is not a big deal.

I'm just trying to justify is it worth $500 for the quality, what other options besides blue tooth/gps does the avic d3 have that might not be listed on the site?

well its a bigger screen compared to the nuvi it has ipod, xm, and siruis capabilities, rear view camera option, it also display's vechile dynamics , and from an installers standpoint you really dont need to hook up the reverse wire and vss wire .

If you want something you can take from car to car, i suggest the alpine units which use the blackbird for navigation.
