Ipod hookup to stock stereo
Ipod hookup to stock stereo
Has anyone found a good solution for hookup to the stock stereoon an 03' Evo? This Mitsubishi harness apparently won't work for an 03. There has to be some solution that isn't ridiculously expensive. I am loathe to change the stock head unit because it actually sounds pretty good and I have been burned before with aftermarket units that really didn't sound very good. Thanks in advance.
you could always get a fm modulator with a direct line to your car antenna. I know they use similar setups for satelite radios. its not as good as a direct input, but its much better than a regular modulator.
Here's an inline FM modulator at Crutchfield for $30 that might do the trick. I have a friend who did his factory stereo in his Subaru using something like this, so I expect it would work alright for your needs too.
And the stereo is dead simple to pop out of the dash so it probably wouldn't be that difficult to do yourself either.

I am pretty happy with this FM transmitter. The sound quality is pretty good and I just drop my iPod into the cup holders where it is in reach to change tracks.

You dont need the controller unless you want to control your ipod from the harmon karden controller.. All you do is plug your ipod into that wire and hit play. Thats the same setup i used to use on my satellite radio. All the controller does is add more clutter to your interior.
I want to get something similar, what is the best option I have if I don't want to use normal FM transmitters? I just don't like their sound quality.
I also tried with AUX, don't really like that system as AUX doesn't help to charge the battery at all.
Thanks.

the factory radio cant read aux unless you have the factory option for it - it will say on the radio cd changer, or aux.
new fm modulators suck without a direct wiring (FCC issue), and even still the sound quality is not all that great. replace your radio! buy a GOOD brand, ie- everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but in my experience, you are going to get better quality sound with a Pioneer, Eclipse (aka fujitsu-ten), Alpine.... their internal amplifiers are much better, and more efficient than most other radios like sony, jvc, etc.

I have an 06 IX MR SE, does anyone know if it came with an aux input standard? Would definitely like to be able to hook my ipod up directly. FM transmitters suck, It is bad enough the stock stereo blows, an fm transmitter would be like listening to the latino channel.
