New Headunit Help

Hello,
I have a 2005 evo with the SSL and am planning to get a new headunit. I like both the Alpine 9884 and the 9885. The 9885 is 50 dollars more than the 84 however it has 4 volt preamp outputs rather than 2 volt preamp outputs. Is my stereo really going to benefit from the extra 2 volts and if so how? Thanks

Are you going to be connecting an amp?

I plan to just keep my stock setup as I am pretty happy with the sound. The car is an SSL so it does have the factory amp though if that is what you are asking. Just curious as to if the extra 2 volts will do anything.

Very interesting question, because i am sure that the amp interface runs through the RCA connections and input voltage WOULD make a difference!

I understand that for only 50 bucks for higher voltage seems to make sense however I am just curious if anyone knows how this extra voltage will affect the sound...

the increase in volts will lessen the gain required on the amp, thus lessening the chance of noise and/or distortion. if you have a really good amp- this generally won't be a problem and indistinguishable, but the higher voltage is always better.

one thing i noticed on alpine's site- the 9885 does not have time correction as a feature!
probably one of the best features in a deck to make the stereo sound better (adjusts for the different distances each speaker are in reference to you ears)

is this time correction a feature on the 9884? also like i said before i am planning on connecting this to the factory amp, so am i going to experience any buzz coming from the speakers due to the lower voltage? Will there be any benifits in the quality of the sound: deeper bass, better mids and highs etc.? Thanks everyone for your help.

I'm not too sure about SSL packages, but the 4 volt preamps would definately help if the amp is run by rcas

go ahead and read the manuals for both decks- the time correction i believe is really valuable. im not sure how well the stock ssl infinity amp will do with lower voltages- can you set the gain on that amp?

You will need the following part in case you were not aware. Disregard if you knew this already.

Dunno my model but I bought an inexpensive (<$200) Alpine and it rocks with the SSL and iPod connection.
