Hi, has anyone done this conversion, have an 8 and looking at fitting a jdm 9 rear bumper.

Is it a straight swap?

It's not a straight swap... you either have to remove or modify your rear crash beam. I highly recommend keeping the beam. There are a couple threads of people that have done it... some pics too.

For the rear bumper?

Thought it was a straight swap with just the skin?

i did mine thur and no it isn't a straight swap. Look up JDM rear instal on the how to forums. I went fromt the USDM VIII bumper to the JDM 9. you have to drill out and rerivett the trimming from the stock bumper and put it on the 9 bumper. you have to modify the license plate bracket to work also. The stock crash bar will have to be taken off or modified to go back on but otherwise u just remove it. It really isnt that hard and took me about 2hr total to do. it is well worth it though

Ok, I had read somewhere about the licence plate light holders being different

Where did you buy your 9 bumper from?

your correct no such thing....

the bracket everyone is raving about is the jdm LICENSE PLATE BRACKET. it's pretty easy to mod the usdm one though....

heres a link to a step by step install for you.

IMO that crash beam is a waste of money period!!!!! Just modify your existing beam by shortening the mounting points on the car. I have a thread up here somewhere with pictures of how this is done. This will save you a ton of money.

so are there lightweight front crash beams as well? What if i take out the front crash beam? what could be the difference in damage as opposed to with it on?

i completely agree with you, i modded mine as well but this is just another option, its lighter than stock and has the bottom brace to to hold the bumper as well.

but i mean if hes having trouble putting a skin on i dont know what is fab skills are.... just throwin it out there.

modding the original one is the way to go! IMO for cost an safety....

the cusco one? i dont think it would provide to much safety in an accident... but better than nothing, as well as stiffening up the front chasi and providing weight reduction!

i THOUGHT the crash beems were only good in a accident up to 12 mph.... but i would imagine they would protect your motor from highway speeds and a deer....
