Capacitor Questions

i have a couple questions regarding capacitors. i've been using a 1 Farad Rockford Fosgate Digital Capacitor with my setup for a few months now. recently my subs would turn off randomly so i rechecked all my connections and everything was hooked up and grounded properly. then i tried recharging my capacitor. i used the charge card that it came with, but when i hooked it up to my battery the capacitor would only charge to around 9 volts and would only go up to 11 volts with the car turned on. it says to wait until the green light on the charge card goes out, but it seems impossible because the highest that the cap will charge is 11 volts. i've read that they should be charged to 12 volts. i tried reinstalling it on my car anyways and i noticed that my cap would fluxuate from 14 volts down to 12-13 volts and then eventually turn off and then it would go back up to 13 volts. is it because it's not charged properly or do i need a bigger cap? my system consists of an 1800w Kenwood KAC-9103D Amp and two 12" 1200w Kenwood KFC-W3011 subs.

Sounds like there is an issue with the cap itself or the part that has the digital gauge in it. Is it under warranty?

I would say your cap took a crap on you. In all honesty you don't need 1 if you do the "Big-3" under your hood. Its alot cheaper and more reliable than getting another cap.

well i dont think the capacitor is the issue because that was my thought at first, but i'm having the same problem even after buying a new cap.

Then you have a bad connection somewhere, unless your alternator or battery is starting to crap out. What is your ground connected to? If nothing else, upgrade the ground between the chassis and battery.

I agree here. Did you actually get the voltage readings from the meter on the cap or a separate volt meter hooked up to the system?
