Pioneer Avic-N5

Thinking about getting one soon but does anyone have any experience with this unit? I like that its pretty stealth, single din, and can sneak away when not in use. Any issues with installation on an SSL? Also why is it $750 BRAND NEW on Ebay and $1500 at Best Buy? Any information would help...thanks!

Refurb, no warranty, stolen, etc. Since it's new, i can't comment on it's performance since I have not played with it.

I've been seeing auctions likes this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-PIONEER-AVIC...3%3A1|294%3A50

almost all of them intentionally say "brand new, not refurbished" etc.

I looked around some more and the price seems to range from $700-1000. Best buy is actually the only place that I see it extremely expensive. I just checked the website and they want $1599!! Crazy!!

I guess its too new at this point...

Ebay is always cheaper than BB, or any other store. Whoever is selling it on ebay isn't authorized to sell it and they're selling it at slightly above cost since they don't have any overhead (ie big store, advertising, etc.). Authorized dealers are required to sell it at or above a minimum price.

Its probably not stolen and probably is brand new. There's ways to get equipment from distributors. Shops are also required to buy a certain volume to maintain their dealer status. If they can't sell it on the floor they'll sell it out the back door for little money, but to maintain the required volume.

I've bought several audio things off ebay with little to no problem. Just don't expect any kind of warranty.

I looked at a few other places and 6TH Avenue Electronics is way cheaper than Best Buy too. It was $800 I believe and there's a store about 5 miles from me so I might go there. The eBay sellers do give a one year warranty but who knows it could be shady. Does anyone have this installed one their VIII or IX?

Bingo!

There are many reasons why they can offer these kind of prices.

Plus you also have to factor in good ol' mark-up. Car audio has a HUGE mark up!! My brother's Pioneer touch screen in his TT Supra was originally like $1k I think he paid like $600. He works at BB though. He has Alpine HU's in all his other cars that he got ridiculous deals on thanks to employee discount.

PLUS he has a warranty for all of them. And Best Buy warranty is actually pretty damn good on most things.
