I'm looking to relocate my standard-sized battery to the trunk. Any tips, or suggestions? I went to: jegs.com and summitracing.com. I'm told that I need a sealed & vented box. I'm looking to buy something that looks like it belongs in the trunk of an Evo. Any ideas?

I'll snap a pic of mine too when I get a chance. I have the Jegs relocation kit, and it did NOT come with a box at all. Just the mounting tray. If you don't have a box, just get an Optima sealed battery. Had to drill through the bottom of the trunk in 2 spots to mount it. I probably woulnd't suggest the Jegs kit, quality was not all that good, looks kinda ghetto, and my mounting plate is a little bent frrom the battery "tie-down" (with the 2 hook/bolt things). The wiring is fine, and the terminal ends and stuff were all fine quality.

Here's a pic of my other evo I just sold. Had the Taylor relocation kit with a nice box. I liked this kit and it looked great.

im gonna order the summitracing relocate kit when i return to the states, U see where the pic above has the "brace bars" going from his rear strut bar, thats where my batt will sit... ive seen a few pics of it located there and it is perfect, u obviously have to drill holes there but yes u need the case around it for drag strip/roadrace aprooval

 

Howie you can try a Mazda miata battery up front.It will probably clear short route pipe.They are small but bigger then mini battery kit ones.They pack full juice.I have an old one if you want to check fitment.If i were to go trunk would go with plastic box because they are smaller and makes for a cleaner install.

 

Another thing I thought of was WHERE to mount the battery for weight distribution purposes. One could argue that it wouldn't make a noticeable difference, and they'd probably be right. But when you get down to corner balancing/weights and stuff like that, I'm sure there's a spot that's more ideal than others. I'd like to see some research or opinions on this.

Thank you JakeTheVIII! You have a VERY clean set up! I ordered the 1-Gauge wiring kit from Jegs also and the 'The Competition Engineering' steel battery mount. It is NHRA, Road Race, etc. legal. It can fit a full-sized battery, or a 21 pound BRAILLE battery which is the route that I went.

I will most likely mount it on the passenger side of the trunk. It will be a more direct line to the engine bay connection and I don't want any liquid to get on the battery system by putting it next to the windshield washer tank when I fill that up...I have been known to spill a drop, or two in the past...

Gordian79: Thanks for the information on the Miata battery! My mechanic drives a turbo'd/intercooled Miata and we looked in that direction...i wanted to get a little more weight savings and knew I would eventually go to the 'trunk anyways.

Also, not sure I ever mentioned, but I have the WORKS 4-point trunk cage, so that also limits where I can place my battery mount...

jakethe VIII thats a super clean install. i agree with you on the corner balancing. it will help compensate with the driver on the opposite side. very well done. if you dont mind me asking, did you notice any substantial difference with that 3 point rear strut bar? always liked the way they were designed but i would most likely (idea?) remove my ssl sub.

its pretty easy just run the wiring either under the car or through the carpeting and into the trunk. just make sure its mounted properly so it doesnt move around. leaves much more room in the bay for IC piping, working etc. lets see some more pics!
