Removing Vortex Generator

well when i purchased my evo 9 it came with a fake carbon fiber vortex generator. i suppose that its been on there for quite some time because 80% of the clear coat is faded/chipped/missing. from past experiences with the 3m double sided tape, i know that its hard to get it off. when i grab ahold of the generator it doesnt really budge. does anyone have any input on removing it without damaging the roof? will the paint be ruined if its been on there for a while?

Take off the weather strip on the top of the car near the vg. That is if its the kind that has little tabs that go into that area

All I can say is good luck getting it off without destroying it. Only way you might be able to get it off without destroying the VG is with a heat gun and dental floss/fishing line. When I removed mine, I didn't want to use a paint gun in that area with the worry of of damaging the roof's paint, so I just ended up breaking it into a million pieces during the removal process.

As suggested, remove the weather stripping and start slowly peeling it off. I would suggest having someone pull it up as another person cuts the tape with a blade or something similar. Good luck.

you will have to:

pop the trunk
pull the weather striiping up to the roof. (clicks in)
use floss and cut the 3m tape underneath the vortex generator.
pull it off.

hope that helps.

Be slow when you take the clips off they can break off. If you do it on a hot day the doubled sided tape should come off easier

Some goo-gone wouldn't hurt either get a rag and hold it by the window while you put some on the top of the vortex gen and use some fishing line. Goodluck!

i didn't need goo gone

so pull the weather strips like normal and use a hair dryer to heat up the tape and that's it.
