2003 GSR audio is baaaaad
I am looking to upgrade my 2003 GSR's audio sometime, for a couple reasons...
1. I have all of my music on a USB, and my Ford Fusion conveniently has a USB jack. I would like to get a stereo for my Evo that can do this too...doesn't even need a CD player or radio, i just like to listen to my own stuff once in awhile.
2. The stock audio absolutely sucks. I don't know much about audio systems, but when my Evo's settings are all default, the front speakers are the only ones that sound like they are working...i have to set the balance or fade or whatever to at least +2 for the rear in order to make it sound OK.
Basically my priorities are set at (1) being able to plug in my usb and play my own music, and then (2) better sound quality. I understand that if i end up wanting both, i am going to need better speakers, which also means a more powerful amp? Anyways idk what the stock speaker settings are for the 2003 GSR, and idk what to do about the stereo...does the 2003 Lancer have the same one? Otherwise sites like crutchfield and sonic electronics are useless...

any help is much appreciated!

Right, rear speakers are "filler sound". They are never supposed to be powering.
I think you're asking for what factory sizes are. The factory size is 6 3/4" speakers. MOST people use adapters to put in 6 1/2" speakers since there is a lot more choices in that size. You'll definitely want another amp imo. It sounds like you have the factory infinity amp?
Yes the 03 Lancer has the same set up as the 03 Evo.
Honestly your best bet is to take it to a car audio professional and see what they can do for you. It sounds like it might be a little over you to redo your deck and speakers. It is fairly straight forward, so if you're willing to learn go for it.

Jump on crutchfield.com and do some reading. The audio system is not too hard to do if you take the time to learn how to do it right. Hopefully you already have all the proper tools to remove your door panals and other interior parts without causing damage. The USB solution will be dependent on the Deck you choose. However the more common option is an Ipod interface. I personally like the Alpine decks. As for components Boston's if you do with a new amp. Dont forget if you decide to go all out you will need to upgrade your factory wiring. It really depends how far you want to go with your setup.
