Dry carbon..

Not sure if this belongs here but I am interested in some dry carbon products but the prices are ridiculous.

Is there a way to purchase a clear coated carbon hood and just strip the clear off of it? Im only doing it for looks nothing to save weight.

Any input is appreciated, call me a ricer but with an evo painted satin black, clear coated carbon just doesn't look right.

Thanks read through it a bit more, sorry to sound stupid still but can you remove the clear from the wet carbon hood and make it appear to be a dry carbon ?

no, "wet carbon" finish looks glossy because of the excessive use of epoxy and resins. without it, it would be like fabric. the dry carbon is also called pre-preg carbon because it comes with the epoxy resins already embedded in it in the perfect amount. no need to soak it. its insanely expensive because it takes a lot longer to get it perfect, and the material is a lot more expensive. i have a dry carbon hood we wanted to make for people but it wasnt worth it for 3-4 people. so there are two hoods in dallas and thats it

You could use this instead. Its called 3m dinoc vinyl. It has a flat dry carbon look. You can wrap it onto hoods, trunks, roofs and practically anything that has a clean surface.

Let me know if you need some. I can get you any quantity at a price lower than competitors.

What's the best way to wrap stuff, do you wet it with soapy water first or stretch it with heat gun? Just got some but so far I'm sh*t at wrapping. Thanks

^ Clean the area first. Then you can apply. It's fairly simple imo. Just takes lots of patience.

Soapy water will leave residue. I would use 70% rubbing alcohol. Wipe down all the surfaces you plan to cover. It dries itself and leaves no residue.

Do not use the heat gun a lot. It will warp the DINOC. You will want to use just a little heat if you have trouble with it. One quick pass of the heat gun at maximum.

Hold off your installation and wait for a hot day. Like 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The low level of heat will make DINOC very easy to work with.

It just takes patience and practice. I see some of the prices that they offer for DINOC and I am glad that I can get the stuff for way cheaper. I can afford to practice a lot. HAHAHAHAHA

Very good info, thanks. Your price on the Di Noc is cheap! Cheaper than ebay.
