Evo's with big systems

I have a system in my evo and i always stayed away from getting rid of the bigger battery. What is everyone doing out there? Will i have a problem with a smaller battery? I have two Audison amps and i do have a high end sq system. I just dont want to have any problems with the system and the alarm!

I have a pretty big system (around 1700 watts rms) and would not consider a mini battery....ever.

you can always do what i did, i took a optima yellow top from a honda civic or miata. there slightly bigger than a mini w/o all the problems. Never had ANY problems since.{thumbup}

You can get a bigger alternator if you're wanting to run a mini battery.

+1
If you plan on getting a smaller battery i would look inot rebuilding your alternator or buying a new bigger alternator.

You don't need to take one from a Honda or Miata. They sell them at Sears if you can't find a Honda or Miata with one already in it. {thumbup}

ive actually been planning on putting a big setup in the trunk with possibly 3x10, 2x12 or 2x15s in an extremely small aperiodic enclosure...imagine 2 15s in a 1.5 cubic foot box and it wont weigh a ton

I wouldnt consider a mini battery with more than 400 watts. Stock alternator only puts out ~100amps @ 2K RPM... and that being on a cold day.

If you have 2 Audisons you're probably pushing quite a bit... you can always get a mini battery if you're gonna run a UICP that requires the mini, and just put a 51 series yellow top in the trunk.... not like you're looking for weight savings. :lol:

If you do this, and want them to both charge of the alternator, you will need an isolator.

It's not really required, however it's the right way to do it. If you have identical batteries (same age, brand and use) you wont need to isolate them, but if you have 2 different batteries you'll over charge one and kill it.

Yeah, I was referring to the comment above that said put a mini under the hood and a yellow top in the trunk, for which it would be required.

im running a 600 wat amp with a small batt and no problems yet

AWDPowah Dec 21, 2008 02:52 PM

I would seriously just consider getting an efficient amp. I've been running the same set-up for years now, and have never had a problem. Downgrading the battery while using a system just doesn't seem beneficial only even saying it.
