can somebody explain this ????

ok, well this is my issue.
My car stalls out or feels like its going to stall sometimes.
My driveway at home is very steep and at the top there is not much room.
so, this means that im in first gear going about 4-5 mph and then at the top when the pavement levels i need to push clutch in to stop. This is exactly when my car stalls. TRUST ME, I've lived at this house many years and had many other stick cars. When my foot presses on the clutch, this is when the rpm drops way below 1.
I DONT have a intake. just a turboback exhaust, straight pipe, MBC, MR DV.

It feels like the car is choking. For me to not let it do this i have to rev while my clutch is down to keep the RPM up. (annoying)

Anyone else have this issue? ANYONE know what this is?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

the only thing i can suggest is for you to put your stock BOV back and see if the problem is still their.

This is Normal on the EVO I know a lot of people have this problem, there is no fix for it.
It happens right when u give it some gas and depress the clutch and it happens radomly so dont even bother bring it back to dealer.

Do you have one of those "loud" BOV's that chuff and whistle even if you just rev up to like 1500RPMs that's vented to atmosphere? That's your problem.

It's not the blow off valve. It's the Evolution.

He has the "MR" diverter valve. It's like stock, only not plastic.

I have the stock BOV and occasionally have the same problem. My car has never shut off completely, but it has dropped down to about 500 RPM, sputtered a bit, then come back up. I just figure it's one of those things I have to deal with.

Try adjusting the throttle cable. It fixed my stalling issues w/ my downpipe.

The cause of it is the small amount of load on the engine causes a small amount of compressor surge that flows backward through the MAF sensor disrupting the flow of air and confusing the ECU..

It can be caused by several things, but usually its because of the Diverter Valve.. Even the stock valve.. What happens is there is a small amount of pressure built up, but not enough vacuum to overcome the spring pressure in the valve to relieve it, so it flows back through the turbo..

Try putting your stock valve back on, and see if it goes away..

Do you by chance have ANYTHING tapped into the vacuum line to your diverter valve? If you do, it could be reducing the signal just enough to weaken the signal to create the symptom. Plus the MR valve has a slighty heavier spring which makes it that much more important that you have a good vacuum signal.

Aftermarket intakes also amplify the problem because the lowered restriction means the airflow has an easier time reversing through the MAF sensor, but since you don't have an aftermarket MAF pipe, thats not your problem.

IF your MBC is hooked up to your DV line, you can place a 1-way valve in the line that goes to the MBC so it closes under vacuum (your MBC doesn't want vacuum through it anyway, plus it could be leaking a little adding a bit more to your issue)

Hopefully this will give you a few places to look.. other places to check are the DV hose clamps, and the other intercooler pipe clamps, just make sure you have no obvious leaks.

were your other stick cars awd? because awd cars require more throttle to get the car moving. you going up the hill with no throttle is kind of like getting the car moving with just the clutch, no gas, while holding the brake pedal. your car will stall. just give it enough gas to keep the rpms up without accelerating.

yes, my other car that i had was an WRX so i know its not me that is being too light on the throttle. hey malibu, thats some good thoughts. thanks
so, im guessing this is an issue for many others?
it used to happen once in a while but nowdays everytime i go up my driveway i either stall or get really really close to stalling.
do you think it could be that i don't have enough back pressure? (straight pipe)

My car does the same thing. It's the EVO. I have a pretty steep driveway too and everytime pulling up the driveway and going to a stop, the rpm goes to 500rpm and bounces back to 800rpm. Everytime! It's normal.
