AEM or HKS Ignition Setup???

Hey guys im looking at getting a new ignition setup. I was origionally going to get the AEM C2DI to match the AEM EMS. But i ran across a HKS DLI for a great price. I know the AEM is the only unit that has the capacitive discharge ignition systems available with dual capacitors. But i thought i would ask and see what you guys think. Im pretty stuck on the AEM still but who knows if it will do the trick for the price you cant beat the HKS. Any info that anybody has would be greatly appriciated or personal experiences.

Thanx
Chris

First off the DLI only take about 5 min to install. The C2DI is supposed to be great because it eliminates one spark per cycle which ultimately lowers EGT temperatures. George uses the DLI and Doug has used it too. It works great and will help your spool up tremendously. It truely amazes me that something that small makes such a difference. The only negative is that it is pricey so if you found one for cheap buy it while you can.

Also you will likely have to use different coils with the C2DI, but its worthwhile if you can get it all hooked up..

Hey guys thanx for the response. Basically i found both the HKS unit and the AEM unit for about $300. I didnt think that was too bad of a price.

So basically i would be better off going with the AEM and call it good?

So an HKS DLI does not fry any coils or have any other adverse effects?

For good information peruse the Supraforums and AEMForums there is lot's of technical data to explain why the AEM setup works better. But you need coils to make it work, so you can built your own with motorcycle coils and ingenuity or call David Buschur for his AEM setup with coil-on-plug.

As Metaphysical says, it takes a little ingenuity, but I definitely am leaning to the AEM setup.

the HKS DLI-II is a plug and play setup, but the AEM C2DI is a dual cap CDI system, it improves idle because of its multi-strike capability, and is way less prone to misfire due to low spark output.. You also have to use aftermarket (quick-recycling) coils.. Which is the reason why I chose the C2DI and Honda motorcycle coils. Since I prefer plug and play setups, I am waiting on some wiring harness components.. the HKS is still at the mercy of the stock dual coilpack setup which does have some issues with providing a good spark at high RPM, and although there is a version of it designed for the Evo as plug and play, it still utilizes the stock coils.. The jury is still out as to whether or not the DLI-II doesn't damage stock coils.

The Buschur setup is nice (but expensive) and uses a similar approach but has the coils mounted in their own spark cover assembly, that setup uses what appears to be larger (Passenger car) coils.
