boost gauge recommendation

I am wondering if anyone can suggest a good boost gauge. Seems there are a bunch of different kinds(brands, electronic, etc.) Any types to stay away from would be appreciated as well.

Thanks

Defi look really good with our interior and they have a good reputation. The D series are pretty inexpensive, but they only come in 52 mm (I prefer 60). The BF's look nice too.

I had Apex'i EL boost and EGT on my Eclipse. They look really good, although the blue with red needle doesn't match the interior as well as the Defi (if you're picky about that stuff). I really liked them and will probably use them on my Evo when the time comes.

I've heard that you should stay away from Autometer gauges. The people I've talked to say they're pretty cheap quality-wise. Then again, some people swear by them. I don't have any first-hand experience with them, and probably won't based on advice from others.

Hope that helps.

unless you want to spend hundreds of dollars for an electronic boost gauge with the controller and everything that something like the defi needs, i would suggest autometer. standard mechanical boost gauge. i have the ultra lite carbon fiber series. works fine, reads boost very well, and it was only 60 bux. much more reasonable if you ask me. plus it came with a red and green condom for the light bulb, in addition to the yellow color it emits regularly, also a very good match for our interior.

defi control unit (needed to operate any defi gauge) = $105
defi boost gauge (bf series) = $200
total=$305 + cost of gauge pod/mounting location

autometer boost gauge = $57.95 + cost of gauge pod/mounting location

you decide whether you need bling, or functionality

Like most electronic items, you get what you pay for. Defi is by far superior to Autometer.

how do you figure that. me aem data logs show the exact same boost as my autometer gauge. spot on, they are identical. although i usually agree with "you get what you pay for", in this case, a equally performing gauge can be bought for much cheaper. defi is just "better" in the eyes of many because it is more expensive.

The Defi BF reds really look good in the Evo. They are high quality and are accurate.
Once you have the control unit, it is easy to add additional gauges and it has some cool features such as warnings, recording, adjustable brightness and peak readings.

I mounted mine with the Craighardy panel and even knowledgeable people have wondered if they were a dealer option.

They are worth the money!

I am very happy with my setup!

I agree. If all you are looking for a something to display boost and you like autometer then why waste your money.

You are lucky to have the AEM to confirm your outputs. If I had an autometer gauge, I would be concerned about the accuracy just because of the amount of doubt raised on these forums. That being said -- I have no way of knowing if my Defis are accurate either.

I bought them because they have a good reputation and had the look and features I was looking for.

It all depends on what your goals are, either way it is a fun mod!

Good luck,

Not all Defi's need the control unit...only the LINK or BF series.

The D Series, which is easily the most popular boost gauge we sell for the Evo, is a standalone gauge....does not need anything else to function

If you want function...go with Autometer....if you want great look and great function definitely Defi amber..........but you're gonna have to convince yourself to spend close to $900 for 3 gauges(you need to get at least 3...'cause 1 looks too lonely) and a control unit.
