Newbie question on Profec B
Hello,
Al advised me to get a MBC from him (which I should have done), but I liked the idea of not needing a boost controller so I had a Profec BspecII installed yesterday. The low was set to 20 psi and the high is set to 22 psi. I have taken the car to over 6000 rpm and its telling me it peaked at 186 or 18.6 psi. Should'nt it peak at 20 somewhere around 3500 RPM? The gain is at 35% if that helps and my mods are: JDM MR BOV, Espelir 3" DP, perrin cat-delete and Espelir exhaust.
Also, if I turn the EBC off, will it run at factory boost?
Thanks for the help, I know has been discussed but I am new to turbo's and the car feels slower so I'm stressing a little here......

yeah man, im in the same situation.. ill try to shed somelight for ya.
First of all DONT stress about the feeling of the car.. mine felt alot slower after the mods.. but after tweaking and testing she was rocking ALOT faster.
first of all im running a ProfecB spec2, my settings are a little different on my controller - that is because i have an EVO7 and a few different mods. (every application is different)
I dont know if you have the book on the boost controller.. but if you do READ up and try to understand the lingo. If you dont however.. ill try and help you out.
To start. Press mode untill you get to 'peak' on the controller.. once there hold down the knob on the controller untill it resets (it will make a long beep noise).
Now turn the boost controller off (hold down mode for 2 seconds till the high/low dissappears)
Now with the controller off go for a drive (with a pen and paper) and be ready to write some things down.
While driving get up into 3rd gear and hold that gear in full throttle untill you hit redline (or 7900 rpm). While in that gear notice what the cars boost gets up to.
Write that figure down - this will be used as a base for working out peek performance values.
NOW before i continue i will explain what the settings on the boost controller mean.
SET (turining the knob while the controller is on) is the desired boost pressure. This percentage mean that 0% will equal 0% of the turbos total power and 100% will equal 100% of the turbos power.
GAIN (mode button pressed once) is that boost consistancy.. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT because you can use it to fix one of two potential problems
1. If you boost is spiking before redline (hitting max boost before the end of the gear) then you need to LOWER the gain amount - untill this spike goes away.
2. If your boost is increasing throughout the rev range (not holding steady boost pressure) then you need to RAISE the gain value.
See now you can understand why you might not be acheiving performance (or feeling like you are scheiving performance) untill higher revs - ADJUST GAIN!
SET GAIN (or start boost) is also important - this allows you to adjust when your wastegate starts to open and when boost kicks in. ADJUSTING the SET GAIN closer to the SET value (the percentage) will allow faster spool up (acheiving boost earlier) HOWEVER do not make the SET value and the SET GAIN value the same - or you will get a boost spike! (boost getting on too fast and dying out).
NOW this is where you need your figure you wrote down before (max boost with the controller off) because the WARNING is where you put in your turbos limit (as to now blow up anything - or over work the turbo)
Put in the highest figure you hit earlier on under WARNING (this tells you/by flashing red, when you get to max boost).
Once that is programmed in this you can set a LIMITER of around 20% (this will knock boost down by 20% if it exceeds your WARINING setting). - good to have so you dont ruin anything under full boost.
NOW take your car for a drive.. using your understanding of the settings try to find out the cars best settings.
You will need a pen and paper - but try to get your car on your max boost pressure in lower revs by adjusting the GAIN and SET GAIN settings.. also increase the SET GAIN value closer to the SET value for faster spool..
Keep trying till you get the desired result..
Thats the best i can offer.. sorry i hope it helps
