Heat Shield

I just have a stock engine right now, but I was wondering if it's necessary to have the heat shield above the manifold? I'm probably going to be upgrading to a SS manifold or something along those lines in the future.

The heatshield, other than protecting hoses and lines from melting also, and most importantly, keeps your manifold at a higher temp than w/o it. This will allow for quicker spool up. Don't remove it (get an upgraded on) when you go ss - unless you powder/ceramic coat the exhaust manifold.
