Check out Manuel GO's EVO - he used JE pistons with something like a 9.8:1 compression ratio, and 1.4 bar boost - he gets circa 500bhp with a bigger turbo.

Higher compression is equivalent to more boost at the end of the day, so I am surprised they allow higher compression but not more boost! Guess they are forcing you to got the (expensive) mechanical way, and not use electronic trickery. I think if you go over 8.5:1 you will need 100 octane fuel for sure.

I think that is exactly what the want. To force us to spend more money and have more trouble to find a correct setup. The octane is no problem since I already run on race gas, 114 octane approx. As of right now I am leaning towards JE forged pistons at least 9.8-1 compression, and crower rods. Retaining stock ECU for now, and 1.2 bar.

The parts sound good for you, especially as they are US makers. But you might find that you'll have problems with the stock ECU... actually I'm quite sure you will...at least you won't get the optimum out of the parts...

mmm i don't know... maybe you should invest in researching about tuning and tweaking the engine with the standalone ECU... you may find that you get more power just by tuning the vehicle to its potential... I run high boost and some expert tuners run similar setups WITH less boost and they have more power... something to think about...

Yep, my priority would be to get an aftermarket ECU and have it mapped properly, especially as it should be cheaper than pistons anyway and I'm 99% sure the car won't run as well as before you added the pistons, with the standard ECU. I might not even start anymore...
Have a look at www.gems.co.uk and their rally replacement and then there's obviously motec, link, etc...

the sport ecu retards ignition at the top end quite a lot,so i belive you would get away with higher comp at that boost figure
i ran 1.5 without det with std comp, using sport ecu
What have you got the cams dialed in at ?

We have done an engine with 10:1 compression ratio. This engine runs with a 34mm FIA restrictor on the turbo. Fuel quality will be a very sensitive point in an engine like this. Dont expect too high boost without using proper racefuel.
