Max torque and shifting?

So i've been told by a friend that in order to go the fastest I have to shift at a point where the rpms will drop back in the next gear to the point where I have max torque.

I've been shifting at around ... 7k always, so Based on that I would be going slower than when I was shifting at like 5.5-6k?

I'm not too sure of the number but from when my clutch just started slipping the only time it would slip was at around 4-5k which we can assume would mean I am making max torque at that RPM range right? So then shifting at 7k and having the next gear hit around at 5.5k would mean I am going slower than if i were to shift at 6k?

Just wondering if this logic is correct and if that I've been doing it all wrong this whole time

Thanks!

yes, you are correct, hombre. if you shift at 7,000 and it hits the next gear at 5,500 with your max torque being from 4,000-5,000, then your best best would be to shift earlier, maybe 6,000. that way the next gear will start somewhere in the vacinity of your max torque. what you gotta do it experiment with your animal and see exactly where that sweet spot is. from there, you will be able to find out where the max torque is therefore finding out which RPM would be best to shift at when referring to max torque.
