You're asking this on an Evo forum so you are going to get biased opinions. Might want to try a non-Evo/WRX forum.

Just my 2 cents.

1) You're on a mitsu forum

2) This has been covered many times before

P.S The Evo is better

I dont understand why people say they want both cars in the garage if they could? They are pretty much identical except for a few things so for me I still pick the Evo and with extra cash I get a SUV. my 2 cents
Imagine if the Evo came with 300hp like the Subaru

For tuning and track purposes Evo will OWN the STi

For comfertable daily driving and amineties get the STi.

Also subaru is better to deal with for warrentee issues than Mitsu but if your tuning/racing your car then you have no warrentee anyway so it doesn't matter.

I would say that the Evo 8 is better than the STI from a driving performance view but that would be here in New Zealand where the Evo 8 has 276bhp, 6 speed and ACD and the STI has 276bhp but with a bit more torque in the lower rpms.

The STI has the better interior and comfort but now that would not be the reason why a person would be buyin an Evo or STI.

My personal choice is the EVO

i just think of it like this:
STi is for guys who doesn't track or mod much...or rather, guys that just want drive a nice yet fun car
EVO is for guys who loves to mod and track...

As if this question has not been asked enough.....

Both are great cars, asking at an Evo forum might offer a biased response.

The key here is the driver, both cars are so close that the driver comes into play. Honestly most will not even be capable of hanging either car out enough to tell a difference. Why do you think we have seen a rash of high 13 to low 14 sec quarter mile times for Evos......

Not saying drag racing is a true test of driver skill, but Ive beaten my share of Evos in autocross events with my slow **** OZ. The Sti and EVO in an average drivers hands driving at 8/10s are almost identical.....

It is now after the Ping STi got detuned and the 05 evo has the larger turbo. I believe the MR killed the 05 STi by 1 second on the road course during the motortrend test.

$0.02 from a layman

In making my decision, I thought it would be easier to add power to a car that handled wonderfully, than to improve the handling of a more powerful car. My 2003 EvoVIII is now Stage 1 via Vishnu, taking hp at the wheels to 267 over stock of about 210 (Dyno4mance dyno). I also added the Vishnu rear swaybar, for very neutral handling around corners and curves. From my perspective, the Stage 1 Evo now has lots of power without sacrificing the handling that makes Evos unmatched.

if you want something comfortable that would drive easier on traffic and is less raw, get STI.

If you don't mind a rough ride that is focused on precision handling without compromise, get Evo.

STI's got a better interior, more features, better gauges.

Evo's handle better, engines' better, suspension is better and the feel of cornering is also a lot sharper than STI.

Speed wise, they're about the same.

I believe Evos' like bolt-ons and they make a lot of power with it. STI need to be modded differently than evo.

Since the ACD is out, DCCC is sorta out of option on benefits that STI offers.

Hmmm... It's hard to form an opinion without re-reading the 500+ threads on this subject... But seriously, there's no reason someone wouldn't be more than happy with either car. They both pretty much kick as$.
