Ok.... What's NEXT? MODS

I currently have a K&N Air Intake, Greddy Profec B II, AFC II, and full 3" exhaust with cat delete. I am looking for the next step in performance.... I was thinking 264/264 cams, or IC Piping, or Cam gears. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am only looking to get 1 of those 3 things listed. I have read mixed reviews about cam gears stating 20+ HP at -5/-5 on stock cams, I am interested to findout what everyone thinks would be the next step in performance. The mods I have now woke the car up but the topend still is kinda weak.... The car feels great in the low end but seems to suffer up top. What will help me take care of this?

Thanks

Out of those three next mods you listed, the cams will definatly give you the best performance gain.

Yah I figured that.... Now I am going crazy trying to decide between 272 or 264? I'm not going to mix them I want straight 264 or 272. My car is a daily driver and I do not have the funds to do cam gears at this time... Can you run 272's 0/0 and make up for the idle with the AFC?

Just an opinion here, but even if you stabilize the idle, which I don't think you can do fully with the afc, the idle will be lopey as hell.

I have a friend here in h-town that has straight 272s and a utec. He got the idle to stabilze, most of the time, but the lopeyness is a little strange to see. I too am doing cams, next week, and decided on the split. Another friend here has the exact same mods with the 264/272 combo, and his car runs great.

Like I said, just my opinion.

I don't care who's you get, but your going to enjoy your car more with a flash at your current state of tune... esp. if your going to add cams. You're denying yourself a lot of torque... keep your AFC II in order to be able to fine-tune the A/F yourself. For your purposes though, even a mail in flash from any of the tuners would be worth a couple hundred dollars to you in the end. I'd also go so far as to say 264's would be your best bet unless your going to get crazy in the not to distant future with your build.

1. if you want a better top end- reflash or some sort of tune with boost controller
2. more power- cams

Truly agree, I started off earlier adding HKS 272 in/ex cams and tried to tune it with the AFC II, was difficult to stabilize the A/F especially since the stock ecu tries to change to the various maps during tuning and every run on the dyno was different. The difference between my car and another Evo without the cams at 21 psi was almost the same at about 241 ATW.
Decided to go for a Stage 2 Tomei reprogrammed ecu, basically a flash from them, power jumped to 310 ATW at only 18 psi.... with 21 psi it netted 370 ATW ( tuning on the AFCII was very easy after that)
Cams are hardly worth it without a tune on the ecu..

Are there any Re-Flash people in South FL? If I get a reflash that totally defeats the purpose of the AFC basically.

I am interested in the Re-Flash.... I don't think i am currently ready to mess with the internals of the engine. I am looking for 300-350WHP with my current mods with a reflash what can I get I am running 20psi with the EBC.

I felt the same way, but then I said f it and installed some 264's. I have never read anything bad that happened to a evo after a cams install. By the way nice sig it's so true.

maybe a track time could help you figure out what's missing in your life... I mean your car.

If you get a through-the-mail flash (they all have one) for your cams, you will be able to "dial it in" better with the AFC. However, if you drop the change for a custom tuned flash, then yes, there will be little to no room for you to need to do anything until you change something else.

I know what I am missing. Roll on power. lol I am looking for a bit more power through the RPM range. With a reflash what kind of gain could I expect with my setup ball park figures.
