Any Suggestions for a flywheel?
Hey guys, Well im throwing a ACT clutch after 8k miles (yes i beat my car), and I just wondering if anyone would recommend a certain type, brand? This cars future is to throw in Vishnu's Stage 2. I was gonna go with Fidanza's aluminum 9lb.
Also have you guys heard of not being able to re-surface your stock flywheel? My dealer said it wasnt possible. True? They also told me I will not like the lightened flywheel as a daily driver. How do you guys fell about it? Im not sure if i should throw in a light one or go for stock. (stock is more). Any advice? Thanks!

Yes, you can have your stock flywheel resurfaced (unless it's severly heat fatigued, cracked, etc...). It sounds like the dealer wants to sell you his. I've used lightened flywheels in my DSMs and plan to put one in my EVO when the time comes. From my experience, they really don't affect daily driving. What they do affect is how responsive the engine is
WORKS does offer the Spin aluminum flywheel with a replaceable steel friction surface: http://www.worksevo.com/store/produc...products_id=38 The last flywheel you'll ever need!

I too was in the same delima as you and just didn't want to bother to resurface the stock flywheel. I have the ACT with Fidanza and it works great. You can get it cheaper if you buy it as a combo. I bought mine from Logicperformance.com. Daily driving is the same as stock. You will not notice a huge difference between the stock and fidanza flywheel but it is 5lbs lighter than stock. Which equates to 5lbs less rotational drive line mass. The car feels lighter.
Goodluck.

really? I noticed an imediate difference when I put in my Fidanza flywheel. I like it so much better I think this is the way it should have been from the factory.
The engine rev's easier, accelerates smoother, and I have absolutely no chatter like I did with the stock flywheel and clutch.

Iron is tougher than Aluminum. Aluminum will work harden which can cause it to crack. However, so far no one who has a Fidanza has mentioned a faliure with it. I have the Fidanza / ACT set up ant it is very smooth. The friction surface is not aluminum but an insert that costs $50 to replace. The dfference in weight is negligable considering the rest of the rotating mass involved. Your dealer is full of it, even my wife says the new set up is better than stock and believe me she did not want to say that as she hates me puttng money in my "toy."
This is another Mustard vs Mayonnaise debate to a point... however, I can not see how someone can't notice a 5lb drop off the reciprocating assembly. The difference is very noticeable to me between my OE set up vs. Mitsuorder's ACT/Fidanza set up.
BTW there are about two manufactures of aftermarket aluminum flywheels available here in the states... everyone just renames them their own. Go with the best deal you can find if you are purchasing one. I think RRE has the best deal going on clutch/flywheel packages right now.
