Will cams void your warranty?

Hey guys, I know this might seem pretty self-explanatory, but if i installed aftermarket cams, would that affect my warranty? I'm pretty sure the dealer will have no idea that i performed this modification unless they took apart the cylinder heads, but who knows what crazy stuff the dealership will pull. Also, would i need an ECU or any engine management in order to make the cams work? Thanks a lot in advance.

yup, will definately void yer warranty. you can tell it has cams by the idle and i'm sure they have ways to check. you need a flash of somekind to get the most outta the cams, wouldn't hurt to put a fuel pump in too.

Absolutely.. Even the mild HKS cams have a bit of a noticable idle difference than stock..

Oh, and the guideline to what voids your warranty.. If on the car, and attached in some way to the engine, it can void your warranty..

Now this is somewhat subjective because it depends on your relationship with your dealer's service department.. But I held off on doing anything 'visually radical' to my car until I had over 20k on the car.. the rest was exhaust, and a bunch of bolt-ons that could be removed if necessary.. However in my case, my dealer was fully aware of the modifications to the car, and still honored my warranty claim.. But in all honesty, I've had very few problems with the car, and it has almost 30k miles on it.. so I'm just going ***** to the wall from now on..

Thanks for info guys. I figured cams would void the warranty, but i just wanted some insight. I already have an intake, upper intercooler piping, bov, and cat-back exhaust. The guys at the dealership didn't complain at all about my mods, but this one chick who worked behind the desk told me to becareful or else they're gonna void my warranty. Oh well, i guess basic bolt ons will have to do. Thanks again.

Hey JTB,

is it actually possible to get away with a bigger turbo or are you just messing around?

just learn how to work on your car & the warranty becomes a non-issue. i told the dealership to save the delivery speel cuz i was going to void the warranty anyway.
