HKS cams and redline

With HKS 272's on intake and exaust would you rev to 8000 rpms safely?
What mods yould you need other than the cams to do this?

i guess you have to get some kind of reflash first before you can get to 8k rpm's.
a new turbo will help.

well yeah, need to remove rev limiter. I mean like valve springs or that sort of thing, what do i need to safely rev to 8k. A turbo won't change the safety margin of reving that high, it will just shift your power band. thank you though, any other suggestions?

Honestly I don't reccomend to stock engine to be reved over 7800 rpms. I actually set my rev limiters to 7500 becuase power drops off to much, you need to shift before then anyways. It don't see it giving you any additional benifit to go up to 8k. The reason I don't recomend it is becuase the stock rod bolts are a streach to yeild style bolts so they can streach after they are seated into the rod if excessive pressure is but on the bolt. This is just my opinion so others may vary. Hope it helps.

He's right! But if you did want to go to 8K with 272's, you would probably need valve springs, retainers, head studs, maybe more?

i suggested a new turbo so you can have power all the way to 8krpm's. just as gtevo stated you lose power at 8k rpm's on the stocker.

/\ He is right. I have the 272's and when I got my car dynoed you could see the power tapering off at the low 7000rpm range. The turbo just runs out of breath. Yes, the cams can make great power there though, just not with the stock snail. And as stated above I wouldn't push the stock bottom end or valvesprings past 7500-7700rmp anyway.

Then upgrade the rod bolts?

I wouldn't rev it past 7500. So I would set it at 7600 or so.

Yes along with Springs, and retainers. HKS cams aren't as bad because the lift isn't as agressive but I would say to be completely safe I would upgrade springs and retainers along with the rod bolts. While you have the head off I would also port , polish and do 1mm oversized valves so it will flow better at the higher rpms. The head flow goes down hill the farther you go up in rpm so it would help alot as well. A good value would be get the RNR or Buschur Head and then have them do rod bolts as well then you would be set.

Yes 7500 or 7600 would be fine. I set mine at 7500 and trigger my shift light at 7k so I have plenty of room.

A better fuel pump, ecu flash, head and rod bolt upgrades. With higher than stock lift and duration cams, 8000 is pushing the valve springs pretty hard . You are asking them to work their load faster and farther for doubtful power gains.

Can any of you feel a power decrease any where after the factory 7000 rpm redline? When at the track, I feel shifting at 7000rpm is cutting it short and taking it to 7400~ is better!?
