Best modifications for keeping stock exhaust
I live over in Massachusetts, and the cops around here are very **** about aftermarket exhaust. What's the best way to get the most performance without changing out the exhaust? Currently I have a K&N Kone Filter, AVC-R, and a tune by turbo trix. 263whp / 271trq.
I would suggest you finish the intake work.
1. front mount IC
2. All the new IC piping
3. new blow off valve
4. Bushar racing alcohol kit with a new tune.
I would try this approach first. this is what my engineer is having me do first this spring. His theory is to extract the most one section at a time and he said this would be a great approach.
The current ic set up is pretty weak and the crappy bov needs replaced anyway.
In europe they use alcohol ( comes stock ) with a few high performance cars. He said the alcohol kit should be good for 25 - 40 whp on a completly stock vehicle.
just my 2 cents. not looking for competion. just trying to help.

^^ yeah. go to the WORKS homepage; www.worksrally.com; and check out the exhaust section. They sell the modified stock mufflers. No personal experience, but this is what you are looking for.

i have something similar to the ATP...its made by quicktime, its a 3" cutoff valve i had welded into the Ultimate Racing test pipe...no CEL...after sealing it with some silicone its 100% quiet, then you hit an electronic switch and it screams, instant 30hp....
Trying to not get an exhaust is a really bad move on the EVO. I read and hear what you are saying about the cops in your area. There are quiet solutions that look like stock that are also very cheap. Bottom line is the EVO needs to have the highest flowing exhaust on it that you can buy. There is just way too much power in the exhaust not to put it on the car in some form or another.
My suggestion is to atleast get rid of the muffler. We have an axle back that will free up an honest 15 whp. The tip is designed to look like stock and it is as quiet as stock. The stock muffler sucks.
Adding more and more performance parts on an EVO without doing an exhaust as one of the first things is extremely hard on the car.
