Best Drop In Replacement Filter
The main problem with K&N would be people over oiling it and getting oil on the MAF sensor.
If your cleaning your filter every 20k-30k your losing alot of performance. Think about it you change the factory air filter more often then that don't you? Why would you not clean the K&N when you would change the factory filter? They are filtering the same amount of air therefore the same amount of dirt. The K&N may be a couple microns more course than the factory filter but, has to be pretty close.

The other issue is new yes most drop ins will flow better than stock but after they have been cleaned a couple of times the flow starts to decrease. I've debated getting rid of my K&N and going back to the stock paper filter just so I know it's perfectly clean when I replace it.

with my HKS after i put it in, i didnt feel a difference, except in 2nd it has a REALLY strong pull. but other than that, no difference in noticable power, now for the sound part, i COULD hear my spool and also the BOV with my windows up. not spooling like a freightliner, and the BOV wasnt as loud as an HKS... but i could hear them and that means others can too!
The WORKS Drop-In filter was designed becuase we were not happy with the current ones on the market.
It has not been released yet but you can see a picture in this months TPR magazine in the EVO Buyers guide. Close by you will see another drop in filter. Compare the amount of breathable surface area and you will see why we sought to design our own.
Should be out in a couple of months and retail for less than $80.

If you want to hear a difference you can take the plastic cover off the top and design a mesh thing to hold the filter in...and on the Mustang dyno here they've seen between 3-5whp gains with the K&N...I don't have one so I can't say for sure, I figure I'll save the 80 bucks and put it towards an actual intake kit
