this is good info. I am from the school of thought that the stock head bolts are extra insurance just in case... better to blow the HG then damage a piston. But lately me coolant expansion tank has been getting darker and darker. Currently I have about 47k on the car so I think it may be time for a coolant flush and head stud install.

Zeus, do you still recommend the "one by one" install method?

It sounds like an assembly issue on the 05's.

I have an 05 8 (regular) ... should I take it into the dealership and have them look at the water pump assembly? I'd hate to wait and get stranded on the side of the road.

I'm not sure if this TSB pertains only to people how have actually had the problem. My car is stock, and has about 1300 miles on the clock.

Do it, ive had mine blow 2 times already! Lucliky i have been close to a friends house both times. This resulted in low pressure in cyl 3 and 4, and a blown head gasket. The car has been at the dealer for 2 weeks now

are you guys ready? i think i have the answer.
i think this is an issue related to boost. stock the 05s spike at about 23 lbs and also can creep back up to about 22 lbs. this is why i think its happening on the 05 cars. one person said that he had a 04 but what im wondering is, does that car have a boost controller on it or has the boost ever gone a little high on the car(leaked past a head gasket)? i think again the compression is leaking past the headgasket due to high boost and the crap excuse for head fasteners mitsu uses.

To me it looks like a rod may be damaged. They'll have to pull out the oil pan to see if theres any metal, keep us posted!

Damn Jon, I didn't know you bought an Evo. Well you can practice for your 6sp by repairing mine. It is boxed up and should be shipping out in the next few days. I have pics for you also so you can preinspect the damage.

This seems to be common. Usually by HG issues.

If it is not the WP plug, it is another freeze plug. It will blow the one out with the least resistance naturally. I am just like you with regards to temps. I take it a step further and wait for oil temps to stabilize also.

Ooh, you may be right...

Except for the fact that I boost 34.1psi. Whoops.

Factory boost is 20.3psi, pre boost taper.
