Black Soot from tail pipe since day 1...?

I bought my Evo8 several monthes ago. It had 8k miles on it. It has always had black soot comming out of exhaust. There is no noticable smoking though. I wanted to know if this is normal or what.

Also, taking that information...the only mod I have is an HKS intake yet I am way faster then the other Evos and STIs in my town. Do you think my car has been remapped? orrrrr....I have no clue. All I know is ..I consistantly tear people up on the road...any ideas would be apprieciated!!

Nope, black soot coming out of a basically stock Evo is not normal.

are you trying to confuse the guy??

Sure it is normal. Evo's from the factory run pig rich. This is a way to keep you from blowing up that 4G63.

Sounds like it could have been flashed. Mine is, and it does put out a nice puff a smoke when starting up particularily in the morning.

I say its perfectly normal. I guarantee if you send your ECU in for a reflash that will cure the problem all the way. When I did my turbo back exhaust I was having a bunch of carbon on my rear bumper. I sent my ECU to Al at dynoflash, got it back 2 days later and no more carbon on bumper. On the reflash they tend to lean it up a little cause like someone else said the EVO comes pig rich from the factory.

Get that thing reflashed!!!!!

93civEJ1 - It runs rich, but I have a basically stock Evo and zero soot on the back of my bumper. So no, I am not trying to confuse him. Let me clarify my original statement: My Evo which is basically stock even after a hard run produces zero soot on the back of my bumper. So to me it is not normal for a basically stock Evo to produce black soot.

The Evos from the factory run rich, that is why its safe to up the boost on these cars. I wouldnt worry about it.

LOL well its definetly on the bumper...and a lil smokey when i slam the pedal down...what I wanna know is where all the speed is comming from...I've raced 2 stock evos (on a track <wink>) and I tear them up bad...I beat an STI with over 5k in mods done by a car length...we've raced 4 times now..3 wins...the first time i raced him he snaped his rear axel

Let me guess you have a tarmac black?? Just because you dont have black on the bumper doesnt mean that you arent shooting out black smoke when you stomp on it.
