Turboback W/out Tune?

I bought a used APS turboback w/ testpipe recently which I really want to install. Do you guys think it's safe, a/f ratio wise, to drive the car with the system installed and no additional engine managment mods for the next few months? I plan on getting a custom tune when I accumulate all the parts I want. Thanks!

Unplug your battery while you do the install. This will help to clear the memory in the factory ECU.

When you reconnect after the install, your adapting factory will learn the increase in airflow and compensate.

Youre still gonna run rich as hell (blame the factory) but safe...just watch your boost gauge...you will be suprised when you see how fast the needle climbs when you remove the restrictive exhaust.

Thanks guys, will install this weekend. When you installed yours, were you able to do it by just unbolting at the turbo, then remove all hangers and then just letting the entire system drop out? I hope i won't have to take the cat bolts out, they can be quite the b**ch.

Start with a cool system and spray liberally with a penatrating catalyst (like WD-40) Allow penetration, trust me, you don't want to break a bolt!

Yes you can remove the entire system as a whole, from what I have seen, but wouldn't you want to take the opportunity to change the gaskets. Or upgrade your crappy stock bolts with some shiny new ones that won't rust?

Take a look at this thread: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=121229

I did the exact same thing - TBE (with and without test pipe) without a tune. Turns out you get no gains - repeat none (at least on the '05) because the ECU will tune them out after 30 min (or 5 dyno runs).

For the first 15 min after resetting the ECU the car felt very responsive though, and gained about 15 hp.
