Subject: Downpipes Shootouts

Many Evo enthusiasts are waiting for aftermarket venders to adjust the downpipe for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR model. Between the Evo VII (5 speed) and Evo MR (6 speed), the transfer case has a different setup. I would like to know if there will be a TPR issue with comparing the different downpipes for the Evo MR so that the myth of the downpipes for the Evo VII which does not fit but some venders say they do for the Evo MR and we the Evo enthusiasts get our moneys worth and not a headache?

Thank you,

Richard Bowers

I'll most likely go for the WORKS downpipe.

I heard ALL 05s have downpipe issues when compared to the 03-04s. Not because of the 6-speed vs 5-speed but because of the addition of the ACD which comes with a larger Transfer Case.

The WORKS 76mm Downpipe fits great on our 2005 EVO MR as well as all other EVO models. We also offer ceramic coating to keep in the heat, increasing engine life and output. Not to mention it will bolt right up to our up coming true 3 inch O2 sensor housing.

You must be braindead. All the downpipes on the market today will work on a 03-05 EVO RS VIII and MR Edition.

No, I am not brain dead.

As quoted by 05-EVO-GSR "All downpipes on the market today will work on a 03-05 EVO RS VIII and MR Edition."

Regardless if 2.75" or 3" downpipes, some do fit but not all do. You shouldn't have to play with adjusting or put a dent/dimple using a deadblow (rubber) mallet to make it fit. Yes, there is a size difference between the Evo's with the 5 speed and the 6 speed transfercase.

Example: Checkout WORKS and BUSCHUR which have specific downpipes made for the MR Edition.

Basically, this email was shared so that all Evo Enthusiasts, like yourself, would be informed.

Yeah thats why places like Buschur Racing make a separate downpipe for the MR. Obvoiusly, your not braindead but blind.

Dont come on making comments like that when you dont even know the facts.

One of the most dumb statements I have heard on the forum. Listen get an "MR" then come back and tell us what downpipes will fit on are cars... People have had to send downpipes back due to the fact that they would not fit the MR.

I just recently installed a Helix 3" DP on my 2005 MR, and it fits perfectly.

I'm not sure why vendors have MR specific DP's, but I can tell you that a Helix DP, made for ALL Evo's fits just fine on the MR without any problems.

So, in all honesty, unless it's a bad or poorly made DP to begin with, ALL DP's should fit the MR just fine.

You must have the Verison 2 of the helix, Cal at Gruppe-S said that one would fit. Myself I have the DC Sports with cat delete, no problems

there are actually very few downpipes that don't fit all models.

When the MR first came out, there were some issues, but at this point, it's really a non issue as long as you are buying parts from a reputable source.

I knew there would be some issues with the 3" dp for the MRs, so I chose the HKS 2.5" dp as my first upgrade. I'm sure when the EVO 9 comes out, more downpipes would fit the MR flawlessly.
