crank pulley damage due to over-rev.

heres whats happened to my car. the dealer called me and told me that the pulley sheered off the bolt from a excessive amount of torque due to over-rev of the motor. it was going to cost 800 to fix, then 725 then 600 now 500. the service manager is performing the work on my car due to him being a good friend of one of my best friends. they arent covering this under warranty as of yet but he is going to have a talk in the morning and see if he can get it covered for me. my question is have you or anyone you know had this happen to there evo. all replies are greatly apreciated!

Many guys are spinning up to 7800 RPM from reflashed ECUs. I'm shocked of hearing this. What parts broke?

Did you do 5th to 2nd gear downshift at freeway speeds?

Sorry to hear that you have to pay out of pocket for this. It could have been a lot worse. At least the dealer is working with you on this and reducing the cost of repair.

the pulley ddint come completely off they told me the bolt(s) that hold it on were extremely twisted and deformed. im picking up the pulley, bolts and all damaged parts tomorrow morning before they do anything and im gonna have someone very experienced take a look at them for me. i can understand if it was due to my fault but i think something is fishy because ive told alot of my friends that work for various dealerships about this and they have never heard of this happening before.

They should charge you the cost of the new bolts plus an hour labor. About 90 dollars. You're getting screwed.

I smell something very wrong here. Is your bud at the dealer lubing you up before the rectal exam?

i found out why this could be happening to me:

this kid i know at mitsu told the guy workin on my car to cover it all under warranty. he also said that there is no way over-rev did that to my motor and it was probably a factory issue. so the fagget workin on my evo decided to just charge me for it because he is a jealous ***** that doesnt like me all for no reason at all. i am really getting pissed now. im going into the dealer tomorrow morning with "guns drawn" so to speak. if there gonna **** someone it sure as hell isnt gonna be me and i can attest that i will not stop till they cover all this damage under warranty and start telling me the truth. they need to stop pulling the "this car was abused so VOID warranty b.s." its happened to to many people that have truely not done anything wrong to a vehicle. if i have to take it up with a higher level of MMC then i will. but i promise im not stoping till this **** gets fixed. we all trust them in selling us a vehicle and they "**** us in the ***" so to speak when it comes to something like this. im sorry if im sounding like im getting to worked up over this but when i spend in the midst of $30,000.00 on a car i want it taken care of when something happens to it.

edit: sorry for such a long post guys but its just upsetting. people assure you they are doing all they can to help you when in turn they are just setting you up to get screwed.

It's BS. If all the bolts were still in and deformed then they were not tight. They loosened up and that is how they got deformed. If they were properly tightened then they would have to have broken.

Not to mention it's kind of hard to over rev unless you downshift from like to 5th to 2nd because on acceleration the rev limiter would have kicked in.
